Indeed. He's starting to look pretty frail, unfortunately.

His first album, Closing Time, can't be beat.

I cannot believe Fernwood Tonight was on in 1977. On the other hand, I'm pretty impressed at my 8-year-old self's taste in TV.

Tom Waits: musician, actor, dispenser of excellent advice. Happy birthday!

Glad I got a chance to see him live a couple of times, given how much he hates touring.

Anyway Tom, if you are reading this, I'm in Chicago, and we do still have the cows, but they have been snatched up for a lot of money, but you might still run into one in the lobby of a business somewhere downtown.

Jebus, he's been doing that tired schtick for forty years now.

Don't be that guy. No one likes that guy. However, we do like Tom Waits.

He did write what should have been the officiall theme for Chicago, not that god awful one they picked earlier this year. (I'm a former Chicagoan btw, at least in presence).

That's about it. I'd love to say something fantastic about him, but that works better than anything. He's one hell of a musician, and him and Kathleen can write the living hell out of a song.

My friends saw him at Neil Youngs benefit concert recently in San Francisco. He did an hour long set with Les Claypool on bass. Another went down to Alabama on the Glitter and Doom Tour. No matter what i definitely need to see him before he meets the devil way down in the hole.

And your wounded eyes.....

That lyric gets me everytime I play that song.  The words remind me of a very good friend of mine.

Happy birthday, Tom.

I can't believe he's only 11 years older than I am. He's always been old, to me. Yet he looks so young in this clip.

Thanks, Subby -- that was really a nice surprise this evening. I missed it the first time (or don't remember seeing it, anyway).

Nighthawks is my listen to anytime anywhere album. Would've loved to sit in during the live recording.

Blue Valentine, Small change, franks, rain, heart attack, closing time, heart of saturday, swordfish, bone machine, blood money, alice, mule, bad as me and those arent even all of them. Insane level of quality output.

Waits is my favorite musician. I don't know if there's ever been a better lyricist.
