They're not?

Better luck next year.

Saban secretly flew to Durham and has been working with Coach Cut all week.  He's also calling in a few favors from the Michigan State days.  Everything seems to be preceeding as planned.

2013-12-07 11:10:52 AM
Think the Barn's luck finally runs out.

Think FSU probably comes out a tad flat on O but ultimately destroys Duke once they get rolling.  Hard to see the Fighting Cutcliffes putting much on the board.

Bit torn of OSU-Sparty.  Think I'd take OSU, but I wouldn't be shocked either way.

Well, Northern Illinois blew their shot against Bowling Green, so now we're properly down to Florida St. and Ohio St. They both win, they play for the title. Anyone leapfrogging them makes the title game invalid.

Yeah, it was really close there between FSU, OSU and NIU for a while....

It's unlikely, as it would require Florida State and Ohio State losing.
In that case, the SEC winner takes #1 and someone has to take number two.  I think that the BCS will chose someone else other than Alabama like Oklahoma State or something.  Might depend on who the SEC champ is.  If it's Auburn, then Iron Bowl Two might sound more appealing to TV viewers.  If it's Missouri...I doubt Missouri-Alabama would appeal to many.

You say that as though people won't still stir up controversy about FSU and OSU being in over a 1 loss team from God's and the Sportswriters Own Anointed And Most Holy Conference.

Doesn't matter, new system next year for people to try and game.

2013-12-07 11:19:45 AM
oops northern illinois shouldn't have done that.

haha saban.  bama would be favored versus anyone in a game, but if you fark up once you're done.

let's go michigan state!  duke sucks!

and is anyone else surprised/shocked that there's 10pm (eastern) cbs game?  i mean i like that fact, but just shocked it's a broadcast channel game.

Next year there will be none of this BCS nonsense.  The top four teams will be picked by a committee of people that includes Condoleeza Rice, so that SEC teams won't have to worry about these silly losses any more.

2013-12-07 11:27:20 AM
also before the strength of schedule for ohio state and florida state folks comment.  the reason media folks blast ohio state, but not florida state for their strength of schedule is because florida state has won 11 games by 27 or so, and another by 14 (approximate numbers), but ohio state has had several seven points or less escapes.  slightly better than the shiat they did versus an equally shiat schedule last year.

Wait, doesn't the four-team playoff start this year, with #1 playing #4 and #2 playing #3, to see who actually gets to the title game?

I think hes talking about their(his) argument saying all undefeated teams need to be considered, that 100+ SOS means nothing!!!

And to show my sadness for the regular season end I will stay out of the thread shiatting today with very few posts. Enjoy.

All Bammer needs is wins by Dook and Sharty (<-Thanks Gameday sign).

Then it will be the winner of the SECCG vs. Bammer.

Will it be Josey and the Tigerbees or Iron Bowl II Electric Boogaloo?

If FSU or tOSU loses but the other wins, it will be SECCG winner vs. whoever wins.

Has a team outside the BCS top 5 going into conference championship weekend ever jumped to the NCG?

Okie State has a loss to WVU and they're BCS #6, who else has a chance?

I'll root against tOSU, the rest I couldn't care less about, I just want to see good games today.

Yep, pleased to see NIU's strategy of "Play Boise's schedule without any of the good OOC games" didn't pan out.

Hat tip to Bowling Green.

OU beats OSU
Texas beats Baylor
Mizzou beats Auburn
ASU beats Stanford
Duke beats FSU
MSU beats tOSU

I still still hate the idea of the SEC NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP (Bama v. Mizzou), but all the chaos would be worth it.

Next year, they'll probably fill all four slots in the 'playoffs' with SEC teams...fark 'em.

There are two ways this can happen.
First by both Duke and Michigan State winning. This scenario, while as unlikely as an asteroid unexpectedly smashing into the Georgia Dome, has an added bonus if Auburn wins by setting up a Bama/Auburn rematch which is sure to result in much butthurt and would be an appropriate end to the BCS.
Second, by taking care of business in 2014 and making to the championship game.

I prefer the latter, but will take the former.

It's the biggest step in the right direction since 1869.  The BCS was a nice idea for about ten minutes and then the flaws became painfully clear.  It's unfortunate that it took so long to fix those problems, and new ones will pop up, but this is the most progress the sport has ever made.

Think there's a chance it could happen another way.  Saban alluded to it on Game Day when he said Auburn should go with a win but didn't say the same of Mizzou.

Sparty win + very slim Mizzou win while looking bad might get Bama to the BCSCG.

Not a terribly good chance, but a chance.

The chances of Duke beating FSU are almost absurdly small.  Duke matches up horribly.  Plus, Jimbo always has his fark-up games when they're favored by 15-ish.  When it's 30-ish, they usually win and often cover.

What's funny is, the other 13 1/2 ACC schools should be rooting for Florida State because the conference payout from the National Championship game is much larger than the other bowls.  Each school in the conference would get about $2 million extra for having Florida State in the NCG and Clemson in the Orange Bowl than having Duke in the Orange Bowl and FSU in the Sugar or Fiesta Bowl.

Ugh, I felt like a dirty Terrapin mercenary typing that.

Yeah, probably.  It'd be tough to put Bama ahead of Mizzou if they pull it off today given the common opponent.  Honest take is that Bama is the better team (thought they should've beat the Barn pretty soundly too), but certainly nobody can accuse Mizzou of having a bad loss either.  You could make a fair argument either way.

The FSU fan in me says, "fark it, hope it's Auburn, because I want to win it all, and they're the weakest of AU/OSU/Mizz," despite luck that is bordering on creepy at this point.  The college football fan in me who just wants to see great games wants FSU-Bama.

Any non-Duke fan in the ACC who's rooting for Duke is an idiot, both for financial and perception reasons.  Since Clemson can't get out of its own way, VaTech's coach has entered his Lost Decade (please just turn the team over to Bud Foster, you idiots), and Miami is turning into what it should be (an okay team at a middling private school), FSU's basically the only thing keeping the ACC from being the Big East at this point.

And there's about a 2.4% chance of Alabama getting into the title game. FSU and tOSU both have to lose. It's highly improbable, but it could happen.

As a result, there's about a 2% chance that Alabama could still win the title.
