It is your FFPL report!

img.fark.net

This was a BOGOF round with a mighty 20 games and only one insurance chip, but somehow no one scored less than zero. We're a third of the way through the league programme, and out of my window I can hear the sounds of marching as Scotland shows again it is a modern up to date region with no historical hang-ups whatsoever [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cairde_na_h%C3%89ireann]. Seriously, anyone wanting to pay the flute should go on a terrorist watch list.

I retain a very slim lead over wynswrld, who has increased the gap between himself and the third placed player nathanjr. That triple now have clear water between themselves and the peloton, headed up by Mr_H and Langston. This could be the week we see the first members of the 1000+ club [Kiss-of-death-warming]. I am suspicious that nathanjr, who also retains Presidency of the BB club benefitted from an auto generation of the second half of his predictions?

Cameroncrazy1984, elguepardo and CheeseheadDave - this is your final warning for zombie like behaviour - are you more alive than the USAs chances of getting out of their World Cup group? MNMarkPW and dead_for_tax_reasons are on the move amongst the zombies - The Walking Football [http://www.surreyfa.com/players/walking-football]?

Top score of the round was StRalphtheLiar with 195 - remember this was a 20 match round, so four prefects and a banker 30 accreted that without the need for fireworks. Similar methods used by Princips_Sandwich and Bolo78 to generate 185 and 165 respectively.

Lowest score of the round went to dietbubba with a measly 10. Next lowest scores were higher than the highest scores we've had in some painful rounds.

Princips_Sandwich moves up 8 slots, dfect drops 8. The_Envoy is scratching at the roof of Page 2 and dietbubba is sitting on the trap-door at the bottom of Page 1 - 'where dignity begins'.

At a macro level, the bottom sees MUFCers clustering and the top 12 is 50% Arsenal.

I am in 707th of 110,000 with an accuracy of 58%. I'm 23rd of all NUFC fans [and a NUFC fan currently has the global #1 spot]. Our median player is NobleHammer16 who is in 46604th with an accuracy of exactly 50% meaning the FFPL median is somewhat higher than the global median. FFPL is kicking the living shiate out of the TalkSport radio presenters [https://predictor.talksport.com/leaderboards/presenters.htm] and is in 339th place in the league-of-leagues - if anyone can find out how many mini-leagues there are, please advise.

In other news, I've discovered as league manager that I can see data wrt when you enter your predictions and when and how often you amend them - but not the predictions themselves. Some people enter and are done, others are little tinkerers, aren't they SachBash?

We'll lose today.

Unnecessary away kit alert.

How come they can fit 'Chicharito' on the back of a shirt but Van Persie has to be abbreviated to 'v. Persie'?

We'll lose today.

I don't believe I've seen a MUFC team as physically weak as this in a long time. Vidic is a beast, and Jones is pretty big and Van Persie can handle himself, but other than that - especially the midfield and forward line - it is looking pretty lightweight.

Could go either way - if NUFC score first it might get rather interesting.

Don't think he's getting the sack until next year, but damn, United look like trash. As much as I like seeing United capitulate, this is embarrasing. You can't lose two at home in a row if you want to challenge for the top four.

I want to be fair to Moyes, he doesn't have a great squad or a lot of depth. But he doesn't seem to be willing to play the best of what he's got, which is young/fast players like Zaha, Valencia, and Buttner.

He was always going to be cut some slack in his first year, he should have used that window to sit down the old men and bring on the prospects.

It's going to be weird to want Utd to take points from the other title contenders the rest of the way.

Man U. is looking like farking crap.  Talk about a brutal group for the cup. If the usa can get a point, I hope it's better than an own goal

2013-12-07 09:16:05 AM
I've said it before, but it bears repeating. This Utd side reminds me so much of the decline after winning the European Cup in 1968. Giggs is Charlton, Rooney is Law, and Van Persie is Best, and the ownership is trying to slide by without investing in the team.

2013-12-07 09:16:09 AM
Also I slept in knowing United would be shiat.  My predo doesn't reflect that, but I was hoping that they would realize this was a must win game.  Ah well.

Lucky for the players, anyway.  If they play it in the middle of the afternoon, it might be over 20 (F) out.  It is 4 degrees fieldside right now.

Good point on Gray. Advancing from assistant to referee at the top level probably takes more work than we can imagine. But who knows? She can't be any worse than some of those idiots.

So how long before Moyes gets the dreaded vote of confidence?

2013-12-07 09:38:29 AM
A good win for NUFC. I don't care how bad they are, anytime you can bet Utd at Old Trafford it is special.

2013-12-07 09:39:24 AM
First Everton, now Newcastle. Teams that just don't win at OT, now win at OT. Wow.

2013-12-07 09:39:26 AM
And if we'd only drawn that, we would have been disappointed. First time MUFC have lost two home league games in a row for 11 years.

NUFC 5 wins from 6, including beating Chelsea and Spurs and MUFC away. Have to be very happy with that.

End of this season. Even the Glazers won't try to comment on him until then, it'll look too bad on them.

StRalphTheLiar: Are those American football yardlines on the pitch at OT?

No, Rugby League marks that have been painted over. The RL World Cup was played at Old Trafford last weekend (spoiler Australia won).

czetie: She also led to Andy Gray being canned by Sky, which automatically put her in my good books.

Sky was itching to get rid of Gray (and his big wage bill) and managed to engineer the entire thing. It was an off air comment on a supposedly dead mic that was passed to a News Corp newspaper by a Sky (News Corp) employee. That the person who passed it along was not sacked says that it was sanctioned at the highest levels. Sky has known to be utterly ruthless about mistakes and making the company look bad.

Sky Sports is institutionally sexist. Soccer AM (the Saturday morning show about football) has the has a section called the Soccerette where a pretty woman in heels, short skirt and her club shirt (tight of course) walks up and down a walkway. That's all she does.
The women you will see on the channel only have two skills, looking pretty and being able to read an autocue. Most have no actual journalism skills yet are front and centre over men who have a deep knowledge of the subject and are decent journalists.

/Not that Grey isn't a sexist dinosaur

For all you Liverpool fans riding high on the result last week i have a thought for you. Norwich weren't that bad defensively. All but one goal was from outside the penalty area and most of the shots were from outside as well, it was just that Suarez decided to play his best game of the season.

That's Suarez's best game of the season, not against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea or Man City that would be real six pointers but against a side that will be in the bottom half of the table.

Sucks for Real, but if Bale can stay healthy, it won't matter much. He's young enough to take on the extra games. Rumor mill says Real may be in for Coutinho as cover.

I don't mind him leaving too much. We have Jese coming up really well as a winger. I seriously hope Real doesn't buy anyone. There's a good amount of prospects coming up the ranks. Jese, Morata, Cheryshev, Nacho, Casemiro and probably some others I'm forgetting.

Crazy period of pressure from Liverpool there looking for a third and what might be my only perfect.  How did we not score!

Sterling Gervinho's again

Just looking at the expanded table.  Man City, Liverpool and Newcastle all have negative GD when playing away. In fact, those three have given up as many away goals as Fulham, Crystal Palace and Sunderland.

The other top three teams in the top six have positive GD.

Thanks to a 1-0 extra time victory vs. Gateshead in the FA Cup first round on Wednesday, the MIGHTY Oxford United aren't playing today. Instead they play at Wrexham on Monday for the 2nd round FA Cup game.

Thanks to the prior results, the MIGHTY Oxford United remain atop the League Two table by a single point.

Southampton is pretty beat up right now, yet they're still probing. Kompany is saving City atm

Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen kicking off in a bit. It's 2 v 3 and both are clinging to some hope that they can stay with Munich in the table.

I'm hoping Italy does their start slow thing so that England lucks into a 1-1 or even a 1-0 win. Loss to Uruguay, win over Costa Rica and a second place finish leading to a game vs the group C winner (Cote d'Ivoire?) and the inevitable quarter final exit.

Glad to see Stoke beating Chelsea, but I'm on -20 going into the Spurs match.  That's WITH my banker on Pool (who should have left the GD at 2 ya bastards!). Well I guess -15 since I get the 5 point banker bonus.

I will have to console myself with Chelsea and Man City dropping points.  Not that I truly think 'Pool finishes above either this season but the longer we stay up there the better it looks.  Here's hoping Sunderland does Tottenham and The Arse take points off of Everton.

I know that feeling.  I've tried to mitigate it by placing banker chips on games where, if I bust the banker, I'm still delighted by the unexpected result and massive upside for 'Pool.  There isn't always a good game for that though.  This week I just figured that the Canaries would be terrible and that a West Brom home win was a safe bet.

Arsenal's title hopes may very well be defined by that stretch of games.  Personally, I have no expectation for Liverpool to challenge for the title this year and the team that actually wins, as long as it isn't Man U, is of little relevance to my hopes for my club.

Since all four of those teams are Liverpool's rivals for a top 4 spot in this crazy season, I will be cheering for Arsenal to take as many points as possible from that stretch of games.

COYG!

2013-12-07 12:42:25 PM
I have traditionally cheered for Tottenham as a team to break up the big four--especially since they did quite well in their one Champions League season.  OTH, I would like to see Altidore do well and Everton is another team I tend to cheer for (not just because Howard is the keeper).

I'll just be neutral for this game.

I don't have just one team.  Other than the big four, the only teams to have played in every Premier League season since 1995 have the Everton, Aston Villa, and Tottenham.  I have been cheering for the Spurs since their Champions League season since neither Everton or Aston Villa have never challenged for the top spots since 2007-8.

Spurs keeping my banker alive! Think I'm on a perfect too.

2013-12-07 01:38:06 PM

Lord Jubjub: I don't have just one team.  Other than the big four, the only teams to have played in every Premier League season since 1995 have the Everton, Aston Villa, and Tottenham.  I have been cheering for the Spurs since their Champions League season since neither Everton or Aston Villa have never challenged for the top spots since 2007-8.

Since Sunderland has just scored, I think I'll back off of Tottenham and start cheering Everton.

There you go. I've always thought that it's harder to be invested in a league if you don't have a rooting interest in a team. Or against a team.

As funny as this is, it's a bit misleading. Pep was signed by Bayern in January, SAF didn't announce his retirement until April. You really didn't have a good chance of prying Guardiola from the Bavarians on such short notice.

At Bayern he gets a well structured organisation with excellent facilities and culture and an order of magnitude more cash to use than any domestic rivals. At MUFC he gets an imbalanced squad inherited from a legend with hundreds of millions being pumped out* by the owners whilst several other teams have equal or better economic clout.

* Albeit from a huge revenue stream - £153m in sponsorships per annum, more than combined total turnover of all Scottish clubs combined

FIFA and UEFA use the draw as a way to show how important they are while every one else knows it's just a way to pad expense accounts and network for kickbacks.

Lukaku will be a handful today. Am interested in seeing the development of Jenkinson today, I'm sure Martinez will be sending some traffic down the left flank to test him.

If  Arsenal can get a two-goal lead, I'd like to see Giroud get a rest and a 10-20 minute run- out of Poldi to bring him back to match fitness. Not sure if Arsenal will achieve that kind of cushion against a team as tough as Everton. Defense has to keep Lukaku from getting room to play his game.

689908: Amidst the sleepless nights few hours and anger at Moyes, Everton played well on Wednesday and deserved to win. They have a clear plan of what they're doing.

Having said that, the alternative to Arsenal winning the title is Liverpool, Chelsea or City, so I'm all aboard the Gooner bandwagon.

Welcome. Please keep your hands and feet inside the wagon at all times

If you think FIFA's WC draw was bad, you should see contests on Univision. The final takes a good 3 hours, of which 2+ hours have nothing to do with the finalists.

Didn't Oldham knock us out of one of these comps in the recent past?
At least Mansfield Town's chairwoman is nice to look at.

To be fair, Everton didn't deserve to lose on this one. They played very well.

Enjoyable game.

Four more rounds of fixtures in December, then we're at the midpoint (hi!) of the season.

Man City v Arsenal and Tottenham v Liverpool next weekend, which gives United the opportunity to ... actually, no, that has no relevance at all to United. As you were.

Vidic's tackle yesterday. Imagine a tackle being the highlight of a game ...

The only bummer is that I wasted my insurance, though it was still a pretty smart decision for the Arsenal/Everton game I think.

Are things really that gloomy at OT?

2013-12-09 10:30:28 AM

Langston: Are things really that gloomy at OT?

Yep. Can't win, can't play well, can't grind out results, can't score, can't stop conceding, can't fight.

The team is a reflection of its manager, and I'll be kind and call him mediocre.

For anyone keeping count of MUFC and Crystal Palace's fight to win the most games, it's currently 6-4 to United.

I'll be honest here: I thought the talk of MU being a title contender was a bit far-fetched. I never saw them as a great team last year and the personnel hasn't changed, for the most part. It was always going to be a difficult transition from a legend in SAF to Moyes. Did I expect things to be  this bad? No.

Give him time. If things are still shiatty in a year, then sack him. But it's a big leap from Everton to MU. He deserves time to get it right. Don't be Chelsea and dump managers every 10 months.

How much time does he need to figure out that he's supposed to try to win every game?
