God....I...I love it when companies do shiat like this.  The amount of negative press it generates is delicious to me.

Granted, it really speaks about how "consume, consume, consume" based our society is, and how sales and marketing departments are so disconnected from reality...but that is a topic for another thread.  Today we shame Chef Boyardee!!!

SpaghettiOs? I don't eat any of that Axis food. Those are FreedomOs!

The first, and only, time I gave my daughter Spaghetti-Os was hilarious.  She was about 4, and had never, not once, complained about a food we had offered her.  Amazing kid -- as happy with McNuggets as with sushi.  A dream to take care of.  But her grandmother had gone to one of the warehouse stores and had "gifted" us with a farking CASE of the "Os".  And she asked for them.  So I warmed up a dish and she sat down, took one bite, swiveled her head around to face me, and simply stated "Yuck."

After I'd stopped laughing, I told her I completely agreed, and I went and made her something edible.

It would have been way worse if Target had posted their logo for Perl Harbor day.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Your daughter has good taste, clearly. And no horrible Chefosporium Boyarum spores either. Win-win.

It's a pasketti "O" holding an American flag, and it says "help us honor Pearl Harbor." It has people up in arms because most of us are severely retarded.

I think it has something to do with the spaghetti O mascot holding the flag looking like the Japanese flag circle, or a zero bomber symbol, or something to do with yellow skin or something... not sure. People really get their panties in a twist over not much of anything these days...

That's as much as I could figure and I still don't see the outrage. It's not like it said "help us celebrate the bombing of pearl harbor by eating a bowl of spaghetti o's"
I could see being a little upset about that.
Maybe because the spaghetti o is smiling and this should be a somber remembrance?
Or maybe because he's holding a flag with 50 stars when in 1941 we only had 48 states?

2013-12-07 10:06:24 AM
Too early in the morning for me to get on the faux outrage wagon.

Oh boy. Reading the comments, some of you Farkers apparently need it spelled out:

YOU DON'T CELEBRATE A NATIONAL TRAGEDY.

WE LOST PEARL HARBOR. THOUSANDS DIED.

YOU *OBSERVE* THE ANNIVERSARY.

AND YOU ESPECIALLY DON'T CELEBRATE IT WITH CRASS "PATRIOTIC" COMMERCIALISM.

You may now resume your regularly scheduled ignorance.

It says "take a moment to remember" not "help us celebrate"
And it doesn't say "take a moment to remember worth a big bowl of spaghetti o's"

JEFFERSON - On three we give him the ol' rochambeau!
THE ALCHEMIST - Rock, paper, scissors?
DR. ORPHEUS - What, uh, does a general from the American Revolution have to do with this?
JEFFERSON - American Revolution? Rochambeau sounds French to me.
DR. ORPHEUS - Well yes, the Franco-American forces-
JEFFERSON - They fought with Spaghetti-O's and meatballs?
THE ALCHEMIST - Why would a company called Franco-American make Italian food?

/that's literally all I could think of for 5 minutes...had to track down the exact lines...thanks fark.

Jeez this reminds me when a local comedian thought he would be funny and had a sign put up "The Ghetto remembers 9/11 too".

It sparked an outrage of all 4 people because it was in the ghetto...

kidgenius: And it doesn't say "take a moment to remember worth a big bowl of spaghetti o's"

THAT would have been epic.

It's not an outrage. Just stupid. I laughed.

I don't know.

I think it is horribly tacky. A big smiling food abomination is remembering the greatest military death toll on U.S. soil in the last 100 years? He looks so happy and reminding you to buy his crap. Why does it need to smile? Almost like it is happy that pearl harbor happened.

Tacky.

2013-12-07 10:19:23 AM
Instead of biatching, why don't we just remember Pearl Harbor?

2013-12-07 10:20:52 AM
Had it been an image of Chef Boyardee personally manning an anti-aircraft gun on a doomed, sinking battleship, scoring a kill against a cartoonishly-devilish Japanese pilot with fang-teeth, would that have been better...or worse?

Looking forward to the August 6 Campbell's Mushroom Cloud Soup celebratory tweet for the bombing of Hiroshima.

(And yes, Campbell's Soup launched Spaghettios under their Franco-American label)
