(New Musical Express)   GT Putnam decides that a veiled hint at homosexuality in Morrissey's autobiography is too much for US audiences, so they've edited it out entirely. Because if there's anyone who should be censored, it's Morrissey   (nme.com) divider line 29

I suspect this was done for some legal reason, not because it was a gay relationship.

2013-12-07 07:42:48 AM
Because no biography or autobiography has ever been published in the U.S. that revealed a past homosexual relationship. It's against the law or something.

More likely it has to do with legal issues with publishing the name of this "lover" and insinuating that he's gay when he may not be. Why would that be a problem only in the U.S.? Who knows? Who can figure legal systems? Maybe this alleged lover currently resides in the U.S., so it's only OK to make insinuations about him in other countries. I mean, can you sue for defamation across countries? I'm just speckle-atin' here.

I'm torn here. On the one hand, I prefer not to think about Morrissey having sex with ANYONE.

Chrissy Hynde, on the other hand. . . .

In my defense, I'm picturing the late-1970s Chrissy Hynde.

Now, leave me alone. I'm busy.

He used to claim he was beyond sex or something, which is pretentious way of saying he's gay but no one would bang him.

/Michael Stipe did the same thing, but I don't find him half as annoying.

And when he found out about this, did he cry.

Can't be done for fear of lawsuits (unless you means those lawsuits that are little more than extortion as they have no legal bases but will cost too much to defend). This book was first published in Britain first so if it was a false claim the person could make a lot of money going through the British courts.

How's that vegan diet working out for you, Chrissy? Take notes, Morrissey!

The statement says: "Unfortunately, I am  not homosexual. In technical fact, I am humasexual. I am attracted to  humans. But, of course...  not many".

That is one of the most pretentious things I've read this week.

I read a story toward the beginning of the week about an "agender" teen who was attacked in school for wearing a skirt. The story stated he prefers to be referred to as "them" or "they" or, alternately "hir" or "ou".

/No, it's not OK to attack someone for the reason they was attacked.
//Yes, the pronoun thing is pretentious. Sorry.

If Morrissey wasn't being pretentious, I would think something's wrong.

He is known as a gay-celibate vegetarian, so, pretty much this. Morrissey has pretty much traded on his inability to connect with people. I can understand, the concern about outing one of his past and very rare relationships.

I don't care who he sleeps with. He plays the best villain ever on The Walking Dead.

Michael Stipe and Morrisey banged each other in the 80s.

Far more likely to be a problem in the UK, which has much broader libel laws than the US, where libel is basically impossible to prove. No, this was "US audiences don't want to read about teh ghey".

Has anyone ever considered that Morrissey might be mildly autistic?

Probably. But that's got nothing to do with him being a pretentious cockbiter.

/Though its effects on the area of the brain responsible for processing sounds would definitely explain his music
