Good meowning all.

Not nearly as much snow came down and accumulated as was feared.  Didn't even need to salt sidewalks.

Got two entire emails from companies I asked about a job at.  Will see what fortune next week holds for me, and especially for my landlord who is being VERRRRRRRY patient right now.

I just got back from the store where I picked up a few necessities for the snowy weekend. Cat food, dog food, cigarettes, ice cream , you know the basics. I walked in the back door and realized that I forgot the most important item and will soon be going back out to the store for it. The toilet paper is nearly gone.

I assume made of tumbleweeds?  If so, CSB time:

One day in Sacramento, a barracks buddy and I were reading the notice the First Shirt had sent around dictating what kind of decerations were authorized in the individual rooms and common areas of our dorms for Xmas.  Real trees could be 3 feet tall with no powered lights on them.  Nothing in your doom room bigger than a breadbox (I always joked that she meant 'thicker than a babby's arm', but a CS for another time).

Anyway, I had a bike for getting.  I remembered pedalling around the SW perimeter of McClellan AFB and seeing a bunch of small tumbleweeds blown by the wind into the base fence.  I told my buddy, "we need to go down there and get ourselves a Christmas Weed."

We hopped in my buddy's old early 70's era jeep something-or-other (looked... weird) and headed across base.  We were poking around down by the old abandoned warehouses when - we saw it!  Our bush!

It was actually bigger than 4 feet across, but we didn't care.  The damn thing could barely fit in the back!  We jeeped it back to the dorms, and it just fit on the end table in the corner we used for lamps or extra 24-packs.  It was shedding thorns and loose branches all over the dayroom rug, but if we vacuumed every five minutes we could keep the worst of the mess under control.

We put everything on that damn weed but the bathroom sink: old PCBs, orange extension cords, actual ornaments, glass stirring rods from the lab that we stole back to the dorms to stir our drinks with, tygon tubing, old pnuematic actuators, a small hubcap, and an old plastic baby bottle with a Jim Beam Green Label on it for the star.

It sat in the corner of our dayroom and gave us a little holiday spirit through our holiday dorm parties, the Christmas hangovers, many drunken episodes of MST3K late at night, and the traditional New Years Day Wings marathon on the Discovery Channel cranked to full volume.  And yes, I know I am going to hell for that.  Actually, I already am a broke bum in Binghamturd, so hell would actually be an improvement!!

And thinking about it, I realize that, derp in the bowels of memories and squallor that is my apartment, I have a photo album with pics of the Christmas Weed.  If I am not evicted by next week, I will have to scan and upload the pics.  It's the sort of thing you have to see, words simply don't do it justice.

End CSB.

Hah!

And thanks for the best wishes for the Missus.

tigerose: Finally home! Eli was very happy to see me. He is currently warming up my foot. I lurv mah kitteh!

I hope all is well with John Buck 41's wife. It is too bad her injury required surgery. Hopefully this will help it heal better.

gremlin1: John Buck 41:

How did things go today ?

Went pretty well. As I may (or may not) have said yesterday, the doc said it would *probably* heal ok on its own, but to be more sure of 100% use of her wrist/lower arm the surgery was the better option. She is still a little loopy but the pain isn't too bad. Thank you all again for your thoughts/good vibes. They really do matter  :)

Cool, glad to hear that.  Again, best wishes for a speedy recovery and good health thereafter fur the Mrs.

Do you feel a slight tugging sensation on the eyeball when you blink? If so, you may have scratched your cornea and there is a microscopic piece of extra tissue there. (Been there, done that. It is no fun) Either way, go see a doctor ASAP!

saw the doctorafter dress rehearsal this a.m. I have an internal stye..which is why my face is swollen. I have to use eye goo for 2weeks. And warm compresss. 4x per day min..

Good morning Caturday folks. Finally a Caturday off, after a cold, frigid, too-cold-even-for-an-igloo, but ultimately quiet week. Had to help co-workers figure out how they were getting home after accidents caused traffic problems (one of few times I'm glad I don't drive yet) As I still have no pictures of the previous overlords, I bring cookies instead: img.fark.net

And maybe a lol from my work background slideshow:

I just returned from my second trip to the store to pick up the most important item (tp) I forgot to get earlier today.
While I was gone a message was left on my answering machine, apparently I won a Caribbean Cruise that I don't remember signing up for, however they forgot to leave a number to call them back. I must have been entered in the contest by that nice lady at the credit card company that always calls to tell me there is nothing wrong with my credit.

So off we went to the pet store to visit Santa.  Dyson shook in fear,, sat on my lap as I drove...seriously shook, he was scared.  Hoover wanted to sit on my lap too.  I'm not that big of a person so I had to tell him he got the passenger seat all to himself but it meant I had to touch him the entire way there.

We walked around and the boys were quite popular.  We got a lot of AWWWWW THEY ARE SO CUTE!!!  Kids wanted to pet them, adults wanted to pet them.  They had lots of things to smell....and big dogs to see and bark at.   sigh.....At least Hoover listens when I say hush.

Our first photo with Santa....

Wow! Those whiskers might be serious contenders.

Measure 'em! The world record is 7.5" (19cm) according to the World Book website. Bring the title back to America.

Good luck! The nation is counting on Alice. ;-)

Long time lurker, always on the tail end of Caturday.  Much happiness found every Caturday, you guys have got me through a LONG semester of teaching AND study AND increased issues with spine (which should mean I do neither study or work, but meh).

I will try and post pics of Larry The Wonder dog (not original, but it suits him), our super intelligent Jack Russell, who helps me mark my student assignments my squirming onto one arm, flopping onto his back, an sighing with bliss. How to resist? He always knows when I am in pain (severe chronic pain due to car accident acquired spinal injury), and loves rides in my manual wheelchair. The electric - well, still thinking about it, but the kids can walk him alongside it happily. Or he walks them, hard to tell.

Getting pics of Briony Dark Empress of All Worlds is harder. She does not like being caught being affectionate or comfortable, prefers long suffering hard life pretence.

Off to play ukulele and practice the mandolin before playing taxi to one of the horde of five (offspring). The Bloke (tm) is away for a couple of days - well deserved, he is building a sundial out of old server racks, he is like that. For example, we have 17 tractors. He LIKES tractors. He likes lots of things. An interesting man!

Here in Australia I view your winter news with bemusement. Never snows where I am, and it is 32C today - a mild summer day. Gets to 45C for a few weeks at a time at height of summer. The pets that own us and the kidlets love air cone then! SO do I;) The Bloke just never notices, oddball he is;)

/ off to music land:)

Catlike Typist: the lawyer for the couple injured in the explosion say both are currently at an impatient rehab facility in Philadelphia.

I'm not a doctor, but if they were both critically injured, perhaps they should be moved to an in-patient facility.  That place sounds eager to discharge them too early.

Good catch... +2
