The next time Fox News practices serious journalism will be the first time.

Don't understand why conservatives aren't 100% behind these Muslim girls. Isn't gender-segregated swimming just the way we did it in the good old days?

Ethical, contextual journalism

Somewhere, deep within the bowels of the Earth, Rupert Murdoch shudders in momentary revulsion before calling for another Scotch on the rocks, with ice made from a woman's tears of despair.

I'll anxiously await our regiment of Truth and Beauty activists in here (you know who you are) to blast Fox News for telling such a blatant lie. Because we all know by now that even the merest iota of a misstatement is worse than the worst possible thing on the planet and must be pursued vigorously to the end of time, like Benghazi, right?

(Of course, that won't happen, because it's just a minor captioning mistake by Faux News and who cares)

I cannot think of a place that I have lived (Germany, Texas, Virginia, derp Carolina, MN) that didn't have pools and/or health clubs with women only swim or workout times.

Foxnews takes something that is definitely not news (or even very interesting) and links it to sharia law- that is just silly.

Thanks Fox, for keeping me infromed

I usually wonder if it is more about Fox feeding on fear or distracting from something else. Sometimes it is both.

No, it's some kind of infringement on the photo's owner. Nobody is naive enough to consider Fox material "news" in anyway.

^This. There was more "Shaira Law" in the U.S. in the 1950's than in Iran right now.

Really? I've never swam in a gender separated pool. There are women only gyms, yes, but every gym I've ever belonged to has had a pool (or I wouldn't have joined) and I've never had girls only swim time.

Yep. Before it was torn down, the pool where i learned how to swim had specific swimming times for both genders. It encouraged things like getting dads and grandfathers to spend time with sons and grandsons.

It seems like these are usually pools only rather than pools connected with gyms and such.

All the outlets owned by News Corp practice the highest standards.  The News of the World, The Sun, Fox News always follow the law.  Rupert Murdoch is a great guy and would never condone this kind of thing.

Maybe if there was a serious effort to correct Fox News, it would include teaching a legal pluralism class at every law school. Mostly to say, "...And as you can see, it is not happening with this Sharia thing."

Up next on Fox, rampaging negro agitators in your swimming pool?   It's more likely than you think...

BUT FIRST, so called "scientists" want to put a chemical called (scary music) *fluouride* in your children's drinking water.  They say it's to prevent tooth decay, but people are saying... "could it be communism?"  We check in with our investigative reporter, G. Gordon Liddy.

Gordon, what's the scoop?  Is fluoride for cavities... OR COMMIES?!

I've seen that advertised before and it makes sense. Many women are uncomfortable in situations where they have to dress down while men are around, especially if they're just starting out. It takes time for self confidence to build and whatnot. Women, at least as a group, don't seem to like how men work out; we are loud and smell bad and constantly drop our deadlifts and dumbells when we're doing presses. Usually with a grunt.

I miss the good old days when Fox News just accidentally changed party affiliation of disgraced politicians. But of course they always were fair and balanced and always switched both parties equally.

What we really need is for some Muslim-owned company to request exemption from the ACA's contraception mandate to remain in accordance with Sharia Law.  You'd need an umbrella to protect yourself from all the exploding heads.

2013-12-05 09:41:07 PM
In Brooklyn, there are many pools near and in Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods with specifically gender-segregated swim times. There are also buses where women must sit apart from men (although the mayor has sued to stop them, rather unsuccessfully). In the meantime, unlike the Muslims depicted, the Orthodox Jewish community has actually a) purchased politicians to keep their pedophiles from being prosecuted, b) gotten politicians to use taxpayer dollars to fund sex-segregated private school buses, and c) instituted religious law in their own upstate community. So of course, Fox News, you're going to start hyperventilating about how "The Evil Joos" are trying to institute Talmudic law in this country, right? And you're of course going to start taking up pitchforks against the well-documented abuse of this nation by conservative Christians?

No?

Oh, so it's not actually a principled stand against the commingling of religion and the state that you're against? You're only against *those people* violating the First Amendment?

Well, fark you and your racist asses, then.

Ultimately, doesn't it all boil down to a PRIVATE organization deciding to do a thing, without any kind of government coercion?  Didn't this organization simply create a situation that respected some peoples' religious beliefs?  Wasn't there a total of NOBODY who was harmed by this?  Why the fark isn't the right-wing, no-government, religious right all kinds of in favor of this?

----preceding is normal Fark posting, following is RABID DRUNK GUY POSTING, proceed accordingly------

Oh, of course, because it's Muslims.  The people who killed Jesus.  Wait, what? Jews killed Jesus?  Is that part of the narrative?  I thought we liked Jews.  And I thought the Romans killed Jesus.  But we like this new Pope... That's Rome, right?  Rome is Catholic, right?  Did the Romans or the Jews kill Jesus?  Am I supposed to hate the Catholics or the Jews, or both?  Neither?

But it's still cool to hate Muslims, right?  They kept science and math alive in the Western world 7 centuries ago... but fark them, what have they done for us lately.  Why should we do anything to get them through this bit of zealotry?

Actually, not to defend Fox News (you can tell from my post above exactly what I think of that evil, lying, racist sack of journalistically-vacant coontbags), but this is actually a public pool.

Funnily enough, if there were an Equal Rights Amendment, this probably wouldn't have been allowed. As it is, reasonable accommodations for the privacy of the sexes, such as gender-segregated bathrooms and separate swim times at pools, are permitted under federal law.

Without looking up the text of the ERA, I doubt that "reasonable accommodations for the privacy of the sexes, such as gender-segregated bathrooms and separate swim times at pools " would have been prohibited.  The ERA wasn't the big emasculating amendment it was purported to be.

Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.
Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.

(Source http://www.equalrightsamendment.org/overview.htm  )

As long as they were equal, separate would be allowed.  But EQUAL equal.

Not Jim Crow vs Southern Gentleman's separate restrooms equal.

The abolishing of separate bathrooms appears to be used as one of the "scare" points to encourage people to push against it.

They were arguing about segregated swimming sessions at publicly funded pools here in Montreal quite a bit last year. I heard some suprisingly heated conversations.
Many of the people opposed to those sessions were far from what I would consider the Fox News crowd.
