Opposite sided, but yes, two on the left, one larger on the right.

I didn't understand why that Jaeger only had three arms. Couldn't the third guy control two arms while his buddies controlled one arm and one leg each? Then it wouldn't have looked as dumb and could've survived more than 30 seconds.

Anyway, good job nerd.

At first I though you were asking about the coloring, which I assume he put on to blend in with the mask, kinda like the goddam Batman.  But then I looked closer and realized you were talking about the shape.  Damn, how many punches to the face does one have to take to get that kinda cauliflower?

Yeah.  The one in the film did, too.  It was piloted by Chinese identical triplets.  They didn't even clone an actor with CGI, they found actual Chinese identical triplets.

From the Pacific Rim wiki:   Crimson Typhoon was originally going to have four arms and be piloted by female quadruplets, but the casting crew was unable to locate quadruplets

Sheesh.  Couldn't they have just found identical twins and cloned them with CGI?  I suppose they wanted authenticity, in a movie about giant robots battling kaiju from another dimension.

It really wasn't until the kaiju figured out that their head is their command center. They may have previously thought that, like them, the Jaegers have two brains, not two pilots controlling one brain. The take down of Gypsy Danger at the beginning showed them that by attacking the head, they can kill a whole jaeger with less effort instead of trying to rip the whole machine to shreds.

And going by what happened to Cherno Alpha, placing them anywhere didn't guarantee safety, as the pilots in Cherno were located in the center surrounded by tons of armor, but the caustic acid spit on it melted through anyway.

That was the saddest part of the movie for me.  I wanted to watch a lot more 50s era Russian Badassness.

I bought the bluray from amazon on BF for $6. That movie is so much endless fun I can't explain why. I mean when I first saw it in theaters I liked it but wasnt sold on it. Watching it again at home, the sound mixing is fantastic. Partly heard GDT's commentary and man chatter non stop and it gets me even more excited while watching the movie.

The features are great as well.

This is going to sound strange given the fact as you pointed out, the movie is about giant robots battling kaiju and thus is laden with CGI, but in the special features for the film they talk about how del toro doesn't like to use CGI if it's possible to avoid it.

Like in the parts where they show the pilots going into the drift where everything is sort of blue/black and white....they actually had the sets and clothing of the actors made that color when filming those parts.  When the chick starts zoning out on her first drift and the surroundings all dim they actually shut off the lights on the set and just have her start walking towards the camera rather than have that all green screened.

In fact, one of the coolest things is how much of the cockpits was actually real.  They were all on hydraulics and they really beat the shiat out of the actors.

I'll go crawl back under my rock now.....

I loved Pacific Rim and that was part of it. I loved how beat-up and real everything looked. Like when they hook their boots into the cockpit and you can see scratch marks on the boots.  It's one of the things that made the original Star Wars trilogy better in the prequels: the original trilogy felt like a real, live-in universe, whereas the prequels everything was shiny and fake-looking. Pacific Rim is kind of a silly movie but fun as hell to watch. I originally saw it in 2D then went back and saw it in IMAX 3D on the recommendation of some farker and was not disappointed.

Pacific Rim is a dumb movie, and by dumb I mean totally awesome.

It's one of those movies where suspension of disbelief trumps all, because when giant monsters attack Earth from another dimension, the only sensible attack plan we can come up with is to build giant robots to punch them in the face.

It is Rule of Cool taken to logical extremes. I think I'll go watch it again.

That was one of my favorite things about it as well, and absolutely a direct result of del toro opting to not CGI the hell out of every single thing.  I'd be willing to bet the cockpit sets they constructed for Pacific Rim are more elaborate than absolutely anything that was physically built for the Star Wars prequels, and it shows.

I know the movie concept is silly, but it's fun, enjoyable and looks and sounds great.  It ought to be the counterargument to anyone that defends the Transformers franchise with, "It's just a Summer popcorn movie about giant robots, what do you expect?"
