(NPR)   Does your teen have trouble falling asleep? It could be something hormonal. Of course, it could also just be that you're a horrible, horrible parent   (npr.org) divider line 20

^^^ That.

Unplug your kids before bedtime before they are teens As long as there is stimulus (TV, video games or ect...) to keep them awake they will stay awake.

Same goes for adults.

Not really. Masturbation and sex are wonderful sleep aids.

Maybe they should have sex with their teachers. That seems to be popular these days.

Kids who feel supported and loved at home do pretty much EVERYTHING better.

If your kid can't sleep, he/she isn't active enough.  Get them involved in sports and the zzz's will follow.  Electronics with bluelight doesn't help, either.

Or they've already watched all the pron?

Today's teens are lazy and weak. No joke. Can't sleep ya little shiat? Well maybe some hard labor will aid you.

On a slightly less crusty note, it's harder for the younger crowd nowadays, I mean, the stuff I regularly did, stuff I got away with too.  So yes, if I were a teenager, I'd have a bad attitude (again) and have a real problem with authority.  Sheesh the same people that complain junior can't sleep are the ones doping him up so he can't run around-like he's su-farking-pposed to.

When people feel more secure and more subconsciously secure, they tend to do better at handling things, and better able to get rest?

You don't say!

Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome: http://my.clevelandclinic.org/neurological_institute/sleep-disorders- c enter/disorders-conditions/hic-delayed-sleep-phase-syndrome.aspx

This is the problem with teens, and it is only exacerbated by stupid-early school start times.

You get both? Lucky!

Does no one remember going through this behavior themselves? I'm almost 50, and I used to have a big old cord for a big old set of headphones trailing across the room from my stereo to my bed, and get busted by my folks for harmonizing to 'California Gold' at 12:30 AM. When they took my headphones, I used the crystal radio in the back pack for my Steve Austin action figure. When they found that, I listened to an amatuer CB base station to someone tracking C&W albums. I was a night owl. Still am, would rather go to bed just after sunrise than wake right before it. Of course, obligations and affection combine to allow myself to take a shift that gets me out of bed at 6 AM, when I can sneer at the universe and no one else know.

Pull the plug after 9pm. Homework will consist of reading and writing. No technology unless the house is on fire. Teens aren't sleeping well because of over stimulation.

So we're all going to pretend that teens slept soundly before TV, video games and iPhones?

/I didn't

I stayed up late at night reading books.

Still do, although the books tend towards ebooks these days.

Hm, so being content and feeling happy in addition to having some sort of physical activity makes it easier to sleep!

Wow! Who would've seen that coming?

But seriously, it's a lot easy to sleep if you're not popping the caffeine all day and then having zero physical activity (PE doesn't count). Join a reasonably strenuous sport and stop the caffeine and you'll sleep decently enough, hormones and all, unless there's some outside issue.

/and if your kid is ADD, consider cutting back on their med dose if they're having problems sleeping. Some of those stimulants can build up over time in your body, rendering you unable to focus due to your tolerance level, but too wired to sleep. It sucks.
//saw it happen to a friend, took them a long time to figure it out.

Jailbreak it and install flux. For Android phones, no root required, use Twilight. If all you see on your phone is a screen with this filter applied, you're going to fall asleep with phone in hand, not kidding. Best part is, the filter isn't very noticeable when looking at the phone, but it still tends to start putting you to sleep anyways.
