Fairly suicidal birds there, bud...

I hate birds getting close to my eyes due to an asshole budgie I once had. In other words, if I had been the first cat, I'd have eaten that bird.

Very similar to a brown-headed cowbird.

We have mockingbirds in our area that will surround a neighborhood cat and then try to imitate cat sounds. The one in front will get closer and closer as it annoys the cat until the cat jumps at it. It'll fly back a few feet, and then one of the others will begin imitating it to draw its attention. I've watched them do it for 20 minutes at a time. There seems to be no other purpose than to annoy the cat until it runs away in frustration.

That's gotta be the bird equivalent of, "Hold my beer and watch this."

They usually do that to drive the cat away from a nest. Sometimes their plan fails

Parakeet is a name for any one of a large number of unrelated small to medium sized species of parrot

And in another news flash Humans are Apes and birds are dinosaurs.

Maybe that's why they are called Mockingbirds?

I grew up with Parrots - an African Grey, a Cockatoo, a Cockatiel, and then another when I was younger the breed I forget.  Blue-something, something-Blue, dunno.  Mostly green with red and black on the wings and tail and then some blue and yellow and such on the head.

Most of them were, indeed, assholes.  In a variety of ways.

Can't blame them though, kept in a cage, wings clipped, chased by crazy dogs.  They loved my Mom though, and the one when I was a kid was fascinated with me and would follow me around the house and  bite the ever-loving crap out of just about everyone else, especially if they got close to me while it was around.

Fuggin' birds.

Starlings are the real bastards. They can mimic. They reproduce rapidly. They gather in HUGE flocks.

Their primary rivals are crows and ravens, and while the crows and ravens are larger and smarter, the starlings outnumber them by quite a bit in most cases.

I've seen large farmhouse yards out here that were so covered with starlings that you couldn't see the grass underneath-- It was just a sea of black feathers.

I used to have a family of starlings that lived outside my bedroom window; They would mimic the sound of the nearby school playground (warped sounds of children laughing) and the school bell. This happened starting at dawn, and went on for the entire morning.

Thankfully, the hawk population is climbing so rapidly that they're turning to starlings as an easy source of food. Of course, this just means we have a ridiculous number of hawks, now.
