UberDave: What could be more safe than a bunch of elderly Chinese people zipping around in tiny cars?
SDRR: Admires the cut of the man's jib
blanchae: My current commute vehicle is a big empty minivan. Would love to have a small inexpensive electric commuter car like that. How's it run in the snow?
doubled99: Rodney Dangerfield didn't say "take my wife, please".jesus christ, kids today.
hogans: doubled99: Rodney Dangerfield didn't say "take my wife, please".jesus christ, kids today. No kidding. Henny Youngman gets no respect./Ironic, eh?
ameeriklane: draypresct: While these buyers seem accepting of the downsides of these vehicles, I'm wondering how long this will last. All it's going to take to shut things down would be a couple of high-profile crashes. While the threat of lawsuits may be lower in the US, they wouldn't survive the awakening of official attention that grieving relatives would bring, especially if these relatives have any friends in the Party.Possibly. The Chinese way of resolving car accidents is much different from the US. The two sides basically stand on the street and argue while onlookers gather, and they finally agree on a payment and the guilty party hands over cash on the spot. Sometimes a policeman is called in to mediate, but that's about it. I assume there is such a thing as auto insurance in China, but I'm not sure how often claims are actually made.I only saw minor accidents, so I'm not sure what they do when there's a more horrific accident and someone dies. In the cities, the congestion is usually so bad that it's hard to get up to killing speed anyway though.
Ker_Thwap: While I was waiting to leave my parking spot yesterday, I watched someone in a smart car make a six point turn over the course of a minute. Left 15 feet of space in the back and about a foot in the front. I suspect it was the same old lady in the grocery store who left her cart sideways in the aisle.I'm not young myself, and it's disturbing to think that at some point in the future I could lose all sense of spatial relations and/or common courtesy.
flynn80: So basically the USA is more oppressive when it comes to transportation and China is more anarchy.
BigNumber12: [img.fark.net image 615x461]Joke's on them if they try to pull you over in this bad boy./probably not, though
