Or you could buy a Neti pot and use a solution of warm water and equal amounts of baking soda and table salt(8 ounces of warm water, 1/2 teaspoon each of table salt and baking soda).  That works and it doesn't require squirting BABY SHAMPOO in your nose.

I actually also use a mixture of baby shampoo, xylitol, salt, and baking soda. It does in fact work very well. It's the only thing that doesn't make me feel like crud (I've already had sinus surgery, which helped some, but not completely). I actually have a weird method of making in in that I put all the ingredients into 32 oz canning jars, fill them with water, cap them and then put esentially "water-bath" can a two-weeks supply at a time (my canner, like most fits 7 jars and I use 16 oz a day of the solution). That way I am ensured the water is essentially sterile (it isn't really as I'd have to pressure can to reach that level) and only have to mix a batch up every other week.

When I get pollen allergies messing with my eyes, flushing them with water and baby shampoo brings absolutely instant relief. It's amazing.

Baby shampoo is a staple in my bathroom, and I don't even have a baby.  Yes, I shampoo with it.  I also use it to wash the dog.  It makes a decent face wash, it's the least drying product I've tried, even compared to those "moisturizing" washes.  It also acts as a great, gentle wetting agent when I'm spraying plants with oil based pesticides like Neem, or when I'm doing a flush.  I'm not super fond of the fragrance used in most if not all baby shampoos, but I can deal.  However, I don't know that I'd want that smell concentrated in my nostrils and sinuses.

I want to try this and the Neti pot thing isn't quite doing the trick... I assume that it really doesn't have to be 'baby' shampoo and basically only the sodium laureth sulfate and cocamidopropyl betaine are the key ingredients to breaking up the nasal biofilm.  Hell you could use shark repellent (pure SLS).  All I have on hand is some generic straightening shampoo marketed to African Americans...what the hell I am going to mix it up in a Neti pot and give it a go...this will be fun.

Baby shampoo is awesome dog shampoo.  1/2 the price of genuine dog shampoo, mebbe less.

So... your nose hairs will look extra well groomed? ;-)

Actually might not be a bad idea. I'm seeing the ENT surgeon on Friday so I'll ask him then, see what he thinks. I've had sinus surgery already, plus two lots of septoplasty and a turbinectomy so I won't experiment with anything without his OK. I've had worse things in my nose...

So I have good and bad results from my little experiment with colored folk shampoo.  It burned like hell and got progressively worse, I started to panic thinking I was going to have a severe reaction of some sort.  After I flushed all the foam out with more saline and the pain subsided I began sneezing and expelling mucus that must have been lodged up in there for years.  Right now my sinuses feel like wide open glorious caverns with wind whistling through them compared to beforehand.   I think baby shampoo would have been the better option. But yeah this works.

Baby Shampoo is the wussiest solution I've ever heard of. The correct answer is to be punched very hard in the face while drinking a lot of strong liquor and laughing.

Wow, I've been using Afrin (or the store brand equivalent) for 20+ years bow. Soon I won't have a septum. Wonder if this would help me since I think it's the oxymetazoline hci I'm addicted too. Would love to get off the stuff, but I don't wanna be a mouth breather. Not even for a day.

I may have to pick up some baby shampoo and try this. I've had a very similar experience to the author of TFA where I go to the doc, he says "Sinus infection" puts me on antibiotics. I start to feel better a couple days into the cycle and for about a week and a half afterwards and it all comes back. Vapo rub doesn't do shiat. Nasal sprays work, but sometimes gives me nosebleeds and if you use them for too long then stop, it comes back worse than when you started. I've been doing the neti pot, and it helps sometimes but it doesn't last very long. Very rarely I'll eat something really spicy that drains out my sinuses for a little while. Taking pseudophed ( the real stuff you have to go up to the counter for) works when it gets real bad, but I can't keep doing that shiat all the time.  I'm tired of this shiat.

Interesting.

3 years ago I came down with a sinus infection from hell. Up until then I had been a relatively allergy free individual, aside from late fall harvest dust related allergies. And I rarely ever get sick, but man, that sinus infection, I swear every tooth in my mouth had a pulse. I was prescribed a Z-pac and sent home. Ever since then I can't breathe for shiat out of my nose, it feels like I've got a party of mucus up in that little "room" up in there that just does not come out, ever. I neti pot regularly, as it does help temporarily, but nothing ever fixes the inflammation and mucus problems. Ergo I get lots of headaches, feel like my face is stuffed with cotton, and am just generally miserable.

Hmm, I do have baby shampoo I use to bathe the dog... I wonder what the ratio of shampoo to water is.

I may have to try this. I use bottled spring water (no chemicals) and sea salt. It works good, but is only temporary.

Will be testing this out later.  Kept getting sinus infections, ENT put me on Patanase and Flonase.  Patanase made my joints hurt (known side effect in small % of patients) so I had to quit.  Lately Flonase has started making my nose bleed and give me a headache.  I would love to find something that would work well and not give me more problems than I started with.

Well in TFA he talks about his Neti pot solution that he uses and mentions a teaspoon of shampoo so I'd go with that. As I mentioned above I have a similar issue and I'll have to try this trick when I pick up some baby shampoo.
