Pay them back on.... What? She would give four thousand dollars of her tax refund back to the library or does she think being a taxpayer means... ow my brain.

"I didn't look at it as stealing," she said, according to charges. "I looked at it as borrowing. I thought I could pay them back on my taxes."

Even if that were true, one would first have to PAY taxes in order for something to be taken out of them, something which I'm almost positive this person does not do.

Well at least she's reading books!

thousands of dollars in video games and DVDs

Wait, never mind.

For saying this, she should be executed. I mean seriously, WTF. I don't have a huge problem with the thefts. Fine her or give her some light jail time or whatever, but for using this as her justification she should DIAF.

Also: OMG what a disgusting hog-beast!

Police forgot to mention that 100% of the money she received from pawning the games and DVDs was used to buy Twinkies

or so it seems....

What's sad is this woman probably barely has the IQ of a turnip.  She claims her boyfriend and his cousin told her that, and if I had to bet I would say they probably benefited from much of the money she stole.

If you see earlier in the article, she claims to have been told by family members (always experts of course) that at the end of the rental period if the items weren't returned they'd add the replacement cost of all her and her "kids" items to her tax bill at the end of the year, and she can pay it back then.

...now I hate to make assumptions, but somehow I have a hunch anyone willing to make up 24 kids for library cards MIGHT not be completely honest about the number of dependents they claim on their W2, so chances are she won't have a tax refund at the end of the year.

So is she so stupid she actually thought it wasn't stealing, or is she only stupid enough to think that excuse will get her off the hook?

Its sad when someone obviously so dumb gets taken advantage of.  I mean, ignorance is no excuse, of course, but I'd believe her if she said she really believe what her family told her.  It's gotten her this far.

First - you have to earn money to get taxes back, even with Earned Income Tax Credit you have to work and earn money

Exactly what I was thinking. She's trying to come up with an excuse to get out of trouble, but it too stupid to realize her explanation doesn't make any sense on multiple levels.

Wow...what idiot at the library allowed her to check out materials on not-her-card?  We don't do that without a filed letter stating they have proxy rights, generally for professors and their TAs.  Granted, as a university library, unless you're a student at the local high school, you have to be 18 to purchase a state resident card (at $60/year or live in-town, which is free).

Incidentally, she also looks like a turnip.

And reading books rather than playing video games and watching vapid movies would probably help with the intelligence part. You know, since it's been scientifically demonstrated that mental capacity can actually improve with mental exercise, handily provided by the lengthy, complex plots and analytical arguments you find in good books.

You know, just a thought.

She can't stand for a long time because of a bad foot (translation: she's too farking fat to stand).  So, the obvious solution is to steal stuff from the library and pawn it.  I'm OK with this.  Handicapped people should be allowed to steal anything they want with impunity.  Next thing you know, they'll want welfare mothers with Gucci handbags and driving BMW's to stop getting free food stamps.

From the look of her, I was betting that she needed it to top up her 401k.

Sometimes I feel bad about making fun of people's appearance, mainly because I am not Robert Redford or Justin Bieber (whatever that is) or whoever is the hot dude of the moment. I have no room to judge, after all.

In this case, I will say her knees are way too padded, and she frightens me. I will give her books if she leaves me alone.

FTFA: "Vue admitted she doesn't have any children and each of the accounts she created is for a fictitious person," the charges said. "Vue claimed her problems started because she is disabled and cannot stand on her foot for a long period of time.

The article said she only has one foot. I think that's the disability.

I'm going to take a guess that her foot issue is possibly diabetes related, but I suppose it could always be something like club foot that was never properly treated.

I looked up the ethnicity of her name and its Hmong (SE Asian origin + American diet = weight problems), with her given name Nhia coincidentally meaning "money" or "silver".

Yep. It wasn't stealing, it was borrowing. She'll pay it back in her taxes. Who can criticize that logic?
I feel the same way about my career of lifting traffic lights and stop signs to sell them for scrap metal.
I also take everything that isn't nailed down when I visit the hospital. My payroll taxes cover that stuff.

Actually almost five thousand.  The MN Dept. of revenue tacks on a 20% charge for collection costs on non-tax debts that get referred to them.

Don't ask me why I know this...

Our local library has a self-checkout kiosk, which lets you scan the barcode on your library card and then lets you scan the items you're taking, deactivating anti-theft tags in the process.  Since the checkout machine doesn't ask for additional ID, I guess it would let anyone check out anything if they have a valid library card.  (Which does bring up the question of how she was able to get 25 library cards in the first place)
