safeforwork: Goodness. I really hate the whole Santa thing (play along for my kiddo, but it gives me the same skeevy feeling religion does), but this whole story makes me smile.

Won't someone think of the elves?
catmandu: As Santa believing kids in the late 50's and early 60's we would stay up on Christmas Eve until the 10 o'clock news came on. The last story of the night was the government announcement that they were tracking an unidentified flying object detected over the North Pole and heading south. They even showed the radar. Only then would we put out the milk and cookies and carrots and head off to bed.
tommyl66: I never did the NORAD tracker thing and I always wondered how you'd handle seeing Santa in your general area but moving away and no presents under the tree? Just tell the kids he is going to swing by on his way home?
There's Always A Bloody Ghost: This is a cute story, and an even cuter Christmas tradition. I remember when my two children were young, we would watch the NORAD reports on TV on Christmas Eve and they would get so excited. It's also an excellent tool to get the kiddies into bed that night, because they know Santa is near and everyone knows that Santa doesn't come to your house unless you're in bed and asleep!
