Wow, politicians being caught in lies.  By George!  Someone should maybe piece those clips together and make a tv show out of it.  Maybe put them on Comedy Central around 11 PM, I don't think they have anything on then anyways.

That wasn't even told this year. How is it in the list?

Why am I bothering to be angry about this, given their previous selections?

FWIW, my vote goes to, "FISA courts are transparent."

For the record, here's the complete list.  Of the 10, 2 were from Obama, 6 were from anti-Obamacare sources, 1 was about UN gun-grabbing, and 1 was Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) complaining about how little the U.S. was doing about Syria.

It doesn't help that the president gave a black and white answer to a question with a lot of shades of gray.  I understand that some voters are too stupid to understand a more complex answer, and that political opponents love to nitpick at the details, but all it ends up doing is pissing off people who do understand what is going on.  Lying through omission is still lying.

They should have allowed grandfathering of all existing plans, not just those that were around before the ACA's passage.  A lot of policies were issued for plans created between passage and implementation of the ACA, especially given the churn rate for plans in the individual market.

"The government, through the Affordable Care Act, will not order the cancellation of existing policies as long as they have certain modifications, such as removing lifetime caps. As we are a Capitalistic nation, we cannot force what specific products insurance companies will or will not carry, simply regulate the ones they will."

Cletus C.: Oh goodie. We get to hear again how it wasn't a lie at all. No way. No how.

We can debate that, but for it to be "Lie of the Year" wouldn't it have to have originated, you know, sometime this year? We first heard this claim 3 years ago, it was taken apart and looked at then (IIRC, the NYT and USAT concluded that while it was probably not true, the law itself didn't require anyone to change plans), and repeated often since then, yet strangely only in the last 3 months has it been the nail in ObamaCare's coffin.

So the "Lie of 3 Years Ago, But Since Now Everyone Cares, We'll Call it This Year". Well done, everyone - we have iPad 1s, computers with the all-New Ubuntu 10.10 and blazing-fast i5 processors (able to connect to the new SharePoint architecture!) and hot-off-the-presses Adobe Photoshop Elements 9, original Kindles and copies of the new smash-hit "Inception" for everyone!

the only quote that matter is "Nobody is going to force you to leave your health care plan."  No other words, no other context matters.  Just like "you didn't build that".  Forget the context of the quote or the meaning behind it.  All words must be taken literally.

I guess this quote, "Helping Americans get back to work is our number one priority, and we're going to do everything we can to help create jobs and to boost our economy." is also a lie then.

Oh, I thought we were saying "What Obama should have said instead of a poorly worded and later misinterpreted statement", to cover what the hell he meant.

It's easy to do that sort of thing when the speaker isn't lying, but is speaking imprecisely or ambiguously, or glossing over details for sake of brevity and conveying the core of the matter.

What I said can be boiled down to "Government won't cancel your healthcare", but that's a negative statement. People respond best to positive statements, thus you invert it to "You can keep your healthcare".

It's imprecise and brief, and misses a lot of details. Soundbites tend to do so.
