I saw someone's Google Streetview of the street that showed a gas main right before that tree they hit. My guess is the main caused the explosion and they were caught in the conflagration post impact.

"Goldfinger" was on TV this weekend. I had to rewind twice just so I could laugh at the scene where Bond runs one of the henchmen's cars off the road and it explodes like 1/4 of the way down the cliff.

I was reading about the Porsche itself on Jalopnik this morning, and it wasn't 150 mph, it was actually about 45 mph they're saying. The curve itself had a 15 mph sign, but those are not enforceable. Sounds like the problem may be the car(No, not necessarily a leak or mechanical failure). Apparently, it's notoriously twitchy for a street car, really sounds like it has no business being sold as such and even the Porsche tester was scared by the thing.

The point of this is that the media may have exaggerated the speed, which is totally weird to hear about, and they may not have been actually driving like assholes...

In one of the threads, someone said there was video floating around of at least one of them alive and struggling in the fire. I have no idea if that's true or not because no way in hell am I going looking for something like that.

This from TFA, though, makes me think that it might be true:

"...We all ran around and jumped in cars and grabbed fire extinguishers and immediately went to the vehicle. It was engulfed in flames. There was nothing. They were trapped. Employees, friends of the shop. We tried. We tried. We went through fire extinguishers."

Does not compute.
"Not enforceable" =/= "safe to drive at any speed". These assholes drove way faster than they should have in a populated area. Secondly: an actual professional driver doesn't get in a car that's "notoriously twitchy for a street car" and race it on the farking STREET. They are assholes, full stop.

Maybe someday, people will realize that regulations are for the safety of the general public and not because some fat bureaucrat gets a stiffy from inconveniencing people.

And we are STILL talking about this one celebrity death... REALLY?

Ray Mazarek died, and he got barely a mention.
Roger Ebert died and got one FARK thread out of it.
Richard Matheson died and his death was forgotten by the news almost immediately.

But some B-lister from a series of bad car chase movies dies, and everyone talks about it for a week? Simply because there was a TINY bit of irony in the way he died?

Would we still be talking about Ray Manzarek's death if he had been crushed by an organ or mauled by groupies?

What is it about Walker's death that is making CNN, FARK, and every other blog and news outlet continue to vulturize the scene?

Second-biggest stars of multimillion dollar franchises tend to attract that kind of heat when they go.

Put another way, imagine if instead of Aaliyah dying in that plane crash before she shot her scenes for the Matrix sequels, Laurence Fishburne croaked two weeks into filming his scenes.

That's just what I read(And what I believe was in the story I posted, if not, it was in the previous one). Do a serach for "Most dangerous car", and you should get a lot of stories about this particular Porsche.

I Like Bread: Does not compute.

Sorry, yellow signs are a recommended speed. White signs are enforceable. Did you not take a driving test?

An advisory speed limit is a speed limit that is recommended by a governing body, but is not enforced. Advisory speed limits are often set in areas with many pedestrians, such as in city centres and outside schools, and on difficult stretches of roads, such as on tight corners or through roadworks. While travelling above the advisory speed limit is not an offence, liability for any accidents that occur as a result of traveling above the limit can be placed partially or entirely on the person exceeding the advisory speed limit.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advisory_speed_limit

I assume you are referring to the advisory speed signs used most commonly under curve warning signs. The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) is the US regulation covering traffic signs, and it states:
Section 2C.08 Advisory Speed Plaque (W13-1P)
Option:
01 The Advisory Speed (W13-1P) plaque (see Figure 2C-1) may be used to supplement any warning sign to indicate the advisory speed for a condition.
Advisory speed is defined as: a recommended speed for all vehicles operating on a section of highway and based on the highway design, operating characteristics, and conditions.

He probably wasn't conscious.  Otherwise they would have heard him screaming from the shop.

2013-12-04 02:42:10 PM
My wife met Paul Walker about 10 years ago and has been troubled by his death.  She's also afraid of fire so I had to try to convince her that they died on impact.  My initial judgement was this because the car was split open at the cabin due to excessive speed.  The driver was definitely killed by trauma so it could be safe to say that Paul Walker also had suffered enough trauma that if the fire hadn't started he would never be the same person physically or mentally if he survived the trauma.

Would a rescue responder(firefighter) split open the car to extinguish the fire and heat?

45, on what was either a 35 or 45 mph street, approaching what is rated as a 15 mph turn. I'd link to the multiple reports concerning this, but I'm on my tablet, and I doubt you would give a shiat anyway.

Speed probably was a factor, but I seriously doubt that the claims of triple-digit speeds are going to hold up for much longer. Supercars like that have been annihilated going much slower. Don't believe me? Look up the ripped in half Lamborghini Aventador.
