So whining about this is still a thing then?

I don't have anything against Ben Affleck, really. But come on dude, you already played Batman, it was called Daredevil. It was not a great movie. His acting, like just about every movie he's been in, was wooden.

I'll reserve judgement, but Affleck really should stick to directing movies, something is actually pretty good at.

I'm gonna hate this movie so much that I'm gonna pay to see it to criticize it, and then hate that enough people paid to see it to criticize it that they'll make a sequel

I can't wait to see Superman give him the Kryptonian Purple Nurple.

Bring Keaton out of retirement.

2013-12-04 11:37:42 AM
He's right. In none of Bale or Keaton's movies did the plot involve the Joker threatening to poison all the chowder in Southie the day before the "Gotham" Red Sox parade.

I liked Daredevil, but I'll admit I've only seen the director's cut.

You want some fresh Keaton that'll make you laugh?  Check out the tv movie "Clear History."  He's great in it.

So, if I understand correctly, Supes and Bats have had about five thousand team ups, and probably around fifty battles.   One of those battles, which was intended as a farce has somehow become defining for both characters and THAT's what they're making the movie about?

Is this really how to build up a brand?

2013-12-04 12:17:36 PM
In fairness to him, if someone came up and said 'Play Batman and we'll give you truckloads of money', who among us would say 'No, I don't think I'm the right guy'?

Amateur.
I'm going to hate it so much that I'm going to use all my free time to write, record, and edit together a Youtube video explaining exactly why I hate it and why everyone else should too, and it's going to be nearly as long as the movie I hate so much.

Meh.

I always find him highly entertaining to listen to when interviewed, but I think he's a pretty terrible actor who has no emotional range except to look constipated and grouchy. And his southie accent is so overdone.

When the kids start telling each other that the new Batman is lame, and to wait for it on DVD...
then Ben, you need to step down and disappear for a while.
Because YOU SUCK!!

For some reason every time I see him in Dogma I feel like drowning a priest in holy water.

I don't see him as menacing, and Batman kinda needs to be that.

2013-12-04 12:59:12 PM
His Batman is unique in that I wouldn't even consider paying to see it.

Can you watch it first before declaring "fail"? Besides playing Batman isn't exactly Hamlet. Bruce Wayne is a smarmy prick, which we know Affleck can do. They always seem to ignore the scientist/detective side, so he doesn't have to be smart and the stunt men do most of the work when he's in the suit. How hard is that?

I thought it was pretty good. In my mind, Jennifer Garner and Elektra was the only thing done badly. The blindsight effect was good, the casting was inspired for Kingpin. I liked the intro to Bullseye.

Affleck has the perfect chin for a cowled hero. The leather red outfit was... different.

Daredevil is a crummy character, a crappy melodrama knockoff of Batman if he was crippled, that had the astonishing good fortune to get some top notch writers.

That's tonight? Haven't watched much Arrow, but I can't pass up Barry.

/As for Batman, Clooney was fine in the role, but he was in a terrible movie. Also, Affleck wasn't what was wrong with Daredevil. As Keaton said, you play Bruce Wayne; the costume plays Batman. Affleck should do fine as Wayne.

Apparently Affleck is a worse actor than master thespians Adam West and Mr. Mom. I'll wait and see. after all, George Clooney is a great actor, and he made a GREAT Batman, right?

Zero problem with the casting, let's see the story and tone first.

Next two weeks, yes.  The few sneak peeks I've seen of him are promising.  And the writers have clearly been reading the internet by Oliver's first line to him.

This has gone beyond lamenting bad casting choices and horrendous PR efforts.

It's now crossed into the territory of pure, carefree mockery.  This movie will not be good, but we no longer care.  It's now purely about mocking the decision-makers behind the movie and cheering on its flaming collision with the mountainside known as reality.

And for all you who think and say 'wait and see!', no...No, we won't wait and see.  I don't need to stick my hand onto a glowing hot burner to know that it'll hurt.  I don't need to stick my face into a fan to know that it'll be unpleasant and I don't need to see this movie to know that it's going to suck so hard that we'll be wistfully remembering the good old days of Batman and Robin, complete with bat-nipples and the bat-credit card.

I get where he's coming from. I was honestly looking forward to a sequel to Man of Steel. I thought it left the character in new territory, with lots of unanswered questions that could be addressed. Then, they decide to include Batman for some reason, even though he just came off a 3-part series that had some of the highest box office numbers ever for movies, let alone comic-book movies, and is considered the best series of comic book movies of all time.  Then, they decide that Ben Affleck, a middling actor with limited range but good writing skills and a charming personality, not to mention huge sway over at WB due to successes with Argo and The Town, should play the Dark Knight himself. I mean, how much more blatantly focus-grouped can these guys get?

I was a bit more optimistic when I read this because the girls throw down pretty hard in the last F&F movie.

Then I did a bit of searching and found that the fight scene I was remembering involved the other two actresses in that movie and Gadot is mostly known in that movie series for getting her butt groped in a bikini so that they can get a dude's finger prints.

I think this line says it all, from her IMDB page:

Trademark: Slender frame.

I'm hoping it gets leaked that some WB exec forced this decision.

I think if you do Wonder Woman the way the animated movie did Wonder Woman, with a hot and physically believable woman playing her, you'll have 3 films basically printing you money.

I'm not sure if you're being satirical or not but honestly, this is one of the things that annoys me most about the Internet of late -- people just decide that they're going to hate something WAY before they actually start using it / watch it / whatever and that becomes their reality.

I can't decide if a Batman of Zur-en-arrh is a great idea or a disaster waiting to happen.

2013-12-04 02:21:11 PM
I don't care what anyone says, I'm still looking forward to this one. I really liked Man of Steel, and if they give Superman a good foil in Batman, it's going to be a great movie. I can see Affleck as a dark, brooding, smartass who takes all of 2 seconds to figure out that Clark is Superman. I'd love to see them follow a similar trajectory as the DCAU Superman/Batman movies. When done right, there's a lot of spark and humor in the Bruce/Clark dynamic. So it's not even a question as to whether I plan to see it. It's all over save for shutting up and taking my money.

My biggest fear, though, isn't that it will be terrible. It's that it will be almost great, miss the mark, and instead be mediocre. I can deal with terrible, because then you grab a beer and celebrate the train wreck. I can have fun with terrible. Almost good, however, is far more painful to watch. It's like watching your football team, who you know should be dominating, consistently throw interceptions and botching easy plays.

I don't know where on the spectrum this film falls, I still want to see Affleck's audition footage, so I'm remaining cautiously optimistic for now.

Gina Carino would have been a much better choice.

Personally I'd rather they played up on the World's Greatest Detective aspect of Batman in live action for once. Occasionally you see that in the cartoons and those are almost always the best episodes.
