Remember, hiring an aide constitutes doing something. But heaven forbid if he actually would put legislation on the floor about immigration that isn't about building a fence that would cost 28 billion a year to maintain.

Remember the last thread when I said no one was really interested in deportations or securing the boarder? And anything or anyone that says otherwise was just putting on a little political theater?

yeah, well I told you so.

To be fair, a lot of people who immigrate here are named Jesus.

And they immigrate here from the same place George Romney did!

Now the circle is complete.

I think there are a small number of traitorous, un-American know-nothings in the country who would like to seal off the borders and deport the immigrants - but they are a small, shrinking, and rather foul-smelling* minority.

* Because they are old, and fat.

WWJD?

/who would Jesus deport?

2013-12-04 10:28:09 AM
The Speaker remains hopeful that we can enact step-by-step, common-sense immigration reforms -- the kind of reforms the American people understand

So three circles with a phrase in each connected by a line?

Jesus would deport Mohammed. Mohammed would deport that guy who eats at the same deli everyday, but nobody says his name.

Why do Republicans hate the word of God so much?

Hebrews 13:2
Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Exodus 12:49
There shall be one law for the native and for the stranger who sojourns among you.

Luke 10:25-37
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
25And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 26He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How do you read it?" 27And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." 28And he said to him, "You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live."
29But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" 30Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.' 36Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?" 37He said, "The one who showed him mercy." And Jesus said to him, "You go, and do likewise."

Jesus, this political theater.  Boehner doesn't need to do this, he just needs to put forth legislation, hold a vote, and get it done.  Hiring a policy aide or whatever is just pretending like he's doing something.

And here's where "That part of the Bible only applied to then/the Old Testament/the Hebrews/etc" gets wheeled in with zero support to justify it. The Bible, much like other holy books and certain politicians, says whatever you want it to say.

Because today's GOP/conservative movement is dependent on American fundamentalist christians, and those fundamentalists are christian in name only. In practice they're all but openly satanic and oppose Christ's "teachings" in favor of generally opposite positions.

Hate instead of love (just see how they have acted regarding gays in recent years), impoverishing the poor instead of feeding/protecting them, venerating the money changers, judging anyone who refuses to share their beliefs/world view, clamoring for war instead of turning the other cheek or seeking peace, etc....

Much of the GOP's base is simply satanic, they just don't realize it yet and think they're still Christian.

Which is perfect when you consider that Republicans really don't want to do anything on this issue. The longer it looks like people aren't paying attention, the better it is for them.

Leviticus 19:33-34 And if a foreigner is with you in your land, do not mistreat him. As one of you (/as a native among you) shall you treat the foreigner living with you. You shall love him as yourself, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. -God

Thirty-six times, more than any other in the Torah, this commandment to be hospitable to foreigners and treat them as one of your own is written. Hospitality must be really, really important to God.

Uh, yeah. The joke was that Mormons believe that Jesus appeared in North America following the events of the New Testament. That was the actual joke.
