I'm ok with this. Scenario: someone doesn't anchor their lights very well, or the wire just naturally stretches a bit and the lights droop. Someone on a motorcycle or bicycle goes by, and *yoink*. Private citizens have no business putting shiat over roadways.

Most of the houses in that area (near Mission Viejo) go for anything between $400K and $600K, thus doesn't qualify as "trailer-trash problem".

Well, you know what? It is not the city's problem. Each city has ordinances that they have established for their jurisdiction. They should have checked the ordinances beforehand. If you do not like the rules, Pack your crap and move! Case Closed. My county fire-code prohibits the use of a real Christmas tree in a condominium without installed sprinkler systems inside the units, but do I complain? No I get a fake pre-lit tree and make do.

The "miracle on 34th St" is a beloved tradition.  I would suspect there is co-operation from the city of some kind.

What's the miracle?  Do the lights keep the crack and heroin dealers away for a few weeks?

That Austin pic reminds me of the old 'krums Country store" on 35 South, right before the 1626 exit by Onion Creek. Had many xmas lights strung up, and all kinds of novelty Texas stuff hung up, real novelty, not like the Applebys kinda crap. Been in there a couple of times, Homey, kinda rundown though. A few years later it burned to the ground. I'm thinking electrical problem. Alas, most likely before your time, son. Burned down early '80s I'm thinking.
