One of the biggest downsides to being a self-absorbed Gen-Xer is that you don't know how react when faced with a world that doesn't think you're the coolest.

Take away the pointless generational sniping and the advice, while generic, isn't bad.

Is this the thread where we pretend that our generation is the best and the current one sucks and is for losers? Because it's funny, you see: I thought my generations sucked and was for losers. Then again, I hate humanity.

Christ, as someone who generally hates his fellow "millenials," the author comes off as a self-absorbed twat. Using hashtags in a written piece is stupid, and no I won't give her credit to assume she did it ironically.

This guy really, really needs to figure out that college parties are for college kids and not people in their 40s. The few good points he makes are completely over-shadowed by the mental picture of him being that guy that everyone figures is just there because his son didn't have his own ride.

What I've heard is Boomers are born between 1946-1964 and Gen X is between 1965-1979 or 1980 at the latest.

/25, which makes me Gen Y or Millenial or whatever the hell it's called.

Sorry, but the last good party year was the year before I went to university.

Gen-xers missed out too by becoming a bunch of keeners and swots after the last of the Baby Boomers proper became sophomores. We all did. The sophomores told us about it all the time.

On the plus side, hazing wasn't nearly as hard and they came back from the run with all of the frosh present and accounted for, unlike that death march through the marshes.

This.

Also...there is no "right" way to party. If you're enjoying yourself then you are doing it the "right" way.

Wait you millennials ninnies don't break stuff when you party? You suck.
The line about somebody being naked is oh, so true. I can't recall a party where someone didn't get naked, (back in the day).
It's not a party until something gets broke and somebody pukes into a plant / platter / sink / or any piece of furniture.

2013-12-03 01:37:23 PM

The biggest problem at a party now is smartphones.  A party with millennials sucks because:

#1 everyone is glued to their phones IMing people who aren't there (and probably a bunch who are).  Imagine if you actually had fun with the people who are around you instead of staring at a screen.

#2 people are taking goddamn pictures of everythng.  Instead of taking 200 pictures of your friends doing things, get in there and have some goddamn fun yourself.  You people are worse than Japanese tourists.  No one will want to look at party pictures in 5 years, but they will still talk about it.  Also, no one needs evidence.  It just gets people in trouble.  STOP TAKING PICTURES OF EVERYTHING.

/Now get off my Gen X Lawn.

My roommate in 1991 used to get naked all the time and then throw up on himself after he passed out. There's nothing quite like vomit song to liven up a party.

Also, note to Millenials- us Xers aren't all as bad as this b*tch.  Party how you want.

We had a guy that used to party with us all the time, he was bi. He would get naked and chase all of the straight guys around trying to rub himself on us. Good times, good times....

That was back in 90/91 or so.

By the sounds of it i'd hate to be young today. But I have to question how the author, and some of you also complaining, actually know what's going on at young people parties. How do I go about getting invited to young people parties? Sounds like the story for the next movie with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.

How do you know that this is what's going on at all their parties? Surely there are some kids today having proper parties. There was one near me that made the news, the standard Facebook open invite thing. Sounded kinda fun, wish i'd been able to go.

2013-12-03 01:48:16 PM
Man, I'm technically Gen-X, and this whole thing makes me think that Gen-X is nothing but a bunch of pathetic, bombed-out stoners grousing about how much cooler they are than the next generation.

Seriously, if you can't have a party where people aren't vomiting all over each other, that's pretty farking sad.
