The UN should step in and handle this Un v. Uncle dispute.

I'm sure that Napoleon Solo is already on the case.

That would only be a proper comparison if NK wasn't horribly screwed up before he took power.

Can you imagine the situation of coming to power in NK? The people have been brainwashed for two generations, the generals are the aristocracy, random aunts and uncles have their own power base (and none of them want reform), the legal system is primarily used to execute political enemies... or people who don't "cry enough" when a public figure dies, there are concentration camps for dissenters where whole families go to die, everybody is starving, and the whole world hates you.

It would take a very smart and clever person to bring NK out of that pit, someone devious to manipulate the internal politics and eliminate roadblocks to reform, but also decent enough not to just sit back and accept his own divine mythology. Maybe Kim Jong Un is that person, maybe not. But if he is, we won't know until he's ready to make his move.

Publically executing people via mortar is far more of an indicator of Joffrey-ism than some guy heroically scheming to bring NK out of the dark ages.

That's just how they've done things for decades. People expect it. Imagine coming to power in such a place, is all I'm saying. I'm not saying Kim Jong Un is a good or bad person (I dont know the guy), I'm just saying if he was a good person it would be VERY hard for him to positively influence the country given the awful state its in (and it's not something he could do over night), because of all the power-centers held by evil men.

I was always under the impression that he was the only relative sane over there, but maybe that is just Western propaganda. If so, it would prove my thesis that in the land of the blind the one-eyed man is not king, rather everyone thinks he's a nutcase.
