robohobo: Too bad it wasn't a christian church, amirite?
SquiggsIN: AverageAmericanGuy: Yes, it's a historical tragedy, but I don't think we're getting the full backstory here. Why were the workers willing to tear the site down? What are the opinions of the people living near the temple? It's fine that a bunch of people who are online and possibly far from the incident have strong feelings about this, but what about people who are on the ground? The people on the ground thought they were getting a paycheck that would help them feed their families. that's it. Destroying culture to feed your family is an easy choice for those already near poverty. Rich corporations looking to pad their profit margins know and exploit this every day.
Interceptor1: They must not have had any reporters available. All I saw were a bunch of screen shots of tweets. I'm sick of tweet 'news'.

willfullyobscure: Do we get frothingly angry about this like we did over the destroyed 2300 year old Mayan pyramids for grade fill and call for mass executions, or do we let it slide because these are inscrutable Asians doing their own thing far away instead of distantly related Spanish speaking subjugants we feel paternalistic about?help me out.
Tatterdemalian: A little research finds that the permission to clear the land was granted to developer Bandar Saujana Sdn. Bhd. by the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) in 2011, and work began last August. The Kedah state government, however, declares that the permission to develop was granted by the Barisan Nasional (BN) party back in 1993, even though the Bandar Saujana corporation didn't exist until it was founded in 1994, according to their company website./so it was Muslim extremists, but they might bomb us if we don't accept their version of events//but we can't blame the Muslim moderates either, because that's not politically correct///guess we'll just blame capitalism
