You're a mean one, Mr. Walker.

2013-12-02 08:23:04 PM
I can't help but wonder how much of that money will come from out-of-state and be used to accuse his eventual Democratic opponent of using out-of-state funds to bankroll his or her campaign.

I thought there couldn't be anything much stupider than the O-Team last week asking supporters to be sure their relatives brought their personal papers over for Thanksgiving dinner so as to talk health-care arrangements while everybody's in a tryptophan haze.

I stand corrected.

You sure you read the article?

FTA: "Instead of venturing into the cold this Black Friday, stay in and give your children the gift that will keep giving... Instead of electronics or toys that will undoubtedly be outdated, broken, or lost by the next Holiday Season, help give your children the gift of a Wisconsin that we can all be proud of... This Black Friday, donate $5, $10 or $25 to help Governor Walker win reelection so he can continue to move Wisconsin forward."

This is a joke right?

I don't see what the outrage is. The GOP base has been convinced to vote against its own self interest for decades now. So how is this little bit of incremental sacrifice any different? You want the UN to get your guns or something?

Wow.  WOW.  I get that he's not seriously suggesting that, he's just looking for any way to shoehorn in a message about how he "stands for the children's futures" or some such bullshiat, but he'd be hard-pressed to find a less asinine way to do it.

Huh, well, turns out that it really was bullshiat after all, just not quite as deep a pile as I was expecting. The actual letter only said to donate instead of buying presents on Black Friday specifically.

I'm actively attempting to read it charitably.  I don't want to face the notion that somebody could be that massive a douchebag.  To that end, my mind is drawing parallels to the kinds of commercials you hear during baseball games, where the advertiser stretches to truly absurd lengths to make a connection between the game and wireless service/electric companies. For my own sanity, I almost have to beleive that.

"Instead of" is a synonymous phrase to "don't [and perform the alternative using the resources you would otherwise use]"

"electronics or toys that will undoubtedly be outdated, broken, or lost by the next Holiday Season " is a synonymous phrase to "Christmas presents."

"toys" implies that those products, in part, are intended for kids.

Many words mean things, not just exact words because it's farking easier for you.

Oh ffs.  Really?  That's what you're going with?  "It doesn't use the specific phrase 'Christmas presents' so it's not about Christmas presents."  Let me guess, you also think the 2nd Amendment isn't about guns because it doesn't specifically use that word.

Obama fundraising ploy: Ask your loved ones to donate to Obama INSTEAD OF GIVING TO YOU.

Walker fundraising ploy: Donate to Walker INSTEAD OF GIVING TO YOUR KIDS.

Can you tell the difference?

I don't think that's the same thing. It's asking you to ask your friends to donate instead of giving you a gift. Walker's is saying to give him money instead of buying your kids Christmas presents. Gee, I can totally see my nephew being totally okay if I say, sorry kid, I gave your Christmas present to some politician. I know you're only three, but you'll get it eventually.

Out of curiosity, why even lie about this?  I mean, everyone is going to immediately know you're lying.  The only point in lying is either that you're intentionally trying to annoy people, which would be trolling and against the rules, or that you're just pretending to be a mentally retarded right wing supporter which would again be trolling and against the rules.

But that's impossible, as Fark mods have assured me multiple times there's no trolls on fark, just people with differing opinions.

So why lie, then?

I find it deeply fascinating that, when TFA is clearly distorting Walker's fundraising letter in a particular way, there are people trying to attack the part of the article that did get it right. Zeb, you could learn a lesson from Debeo - he had enough sense not to attack TFA on specifics.

Milo Minderbinder: He must have some idiot advisors.  "Here, take this phone call from some guy claiming to be a Koch brother.  He sounds legit."

It's even better than that.  When that guy first called Walker wasn't available, so he set up an appointment to call back and talk with him.  The phone call you heard was when Walker's staff had set aside time for them to talk when he called back.  So it wasn't even a panicked staffer mistakenly putting the wrong call through and catching Walker off guard.  He prepared for that phone conversation.

Hah!  Improved schools?  Really?  We had the highest high school graduation rate in the country before this choad came in, cut $500/student/year from the budget, starting using teachers and teaching assistants as a political football, took away their collective bargaining rights, and started his mission to privatize our public education system.

Where are we going?  Look at the bottom 10 states for high school graduation, and see how many don't allow collective bargaining for teachers.  Do the same exercise for the top 10 states.

/He's already stated he wants to cut more funding for schools in the next budget
//for the childrens, of course
