It's a good thing we live in a post-racial America.

Police? Apologize? But that would undermine their absolute authority over all civilians!

fark Texas, for the most part.

Dear Texas:

Have you tried not being a festering racist illiterate shiathole?  Books and darker-skinned people aren't all that scary.  In fact, darker-skinned people often carry legally binding pieces of paper, and you can find out all sorts of neat things by reading these pieces of paper.

Goes both ways.  I'm white and my black girlfriend has a 16 year old daughter.  I have been approached by security many times when she and I are waiting for mom to meet us.  Racists are racist regardless of color.

Destiny Thompson insisted that the police owed her and her daughter an apology. However, the department refused to comment for KHOU's report

It's like they just beg for lawsuits in situations like this.  Apologies are free, dipshiats.

Hey, let's look on the bright side.

The article ended without using the words "bullet riddled corpse".

Because who lets their 13yo daughter go on a roadtrip with 2 dance instructors of any race?

Completely remove race from this article and it still smells like hikers socks.

If you apologize, it means you did something wrong and should be sued.

Because it's TV reporting. The truly important facts were left out because they don't make for good footage.

The cops are definitely assholes for their actions. However, with a name like destiny, the situation is somewhat less surprising.

In your case there's old man/ young and visibly unrelated girl Lolita concern. Article is about cops seeing two black men and a white girl and thinking "sex worker".

Although, 13 year old "dancer", mom's named Destiny... Give her time, I bet someday she at least hangs from the vertical pole upside down by her ankles.

The same parents who let their 13 year old daughters go to all manner of camps, which is to say most of them?

Well, not hearing the dad's response to the story, for one. The dance instructors certainly seemed above board. I'm just wondering if somebody called the police on them, perhaps somebody who knew them.

There are, I think, more than two angles on this story. We are seeing one. I'm not saying the men did anything wrong... just that there may be something that provoked the police to proceed, in force, to that gas station. It's not like a parade of police just happened by, spotted the girl, and somehow knowing she was under age (how could anybody tell?) surrounded them, as described in the article, and harassed them.

Somebody reported it. Was it a stranger? What does the Dad have to say about all this? Possibly another family member? Jealous friend or classmate?

Men get it regardless of skin color. My husband has quite a few unamusing stories, like how librarians hover like vultures when he takes our son to pick from the children's section or how he can't go to some public playground s because the mommies / nannies call the cops because some adult with a penis wants to be around his own kid.

2013-12-02 08:46:12 PM
She is a minor, and she is with 2 adult men at night whom she is clearly not related to.

Not sure if racism needs to be the term invoked by the confusion of the officers.
Forgetting the fact, that dance instructors are typically gay.

/who are, statistically speaking, gay.

You think that a jealous classmate who've known what gas station parking lot in Houston they were in?

They had stopped at a gas station. Someone likely say a young white girl with two black men and decided that it had to be something nefarious. The police then showed up en masse, and were not taking notarized-letter-from-the-mother for an answer.

BrokenToilet: Since when do permission slips need to be notarized?

When the person responsible is taking the minor out of state, and being given guardianship rights for the duration of the trip, that is a legal document that must be notarized.

All it takes to locate somebody is an active cell phone.

I just think it odd that a bunch of police cars show up as they did, without the police being alerted ahead of time by somebody. As for who? How should I know? That's why think there is more to the story.

Questioning the thoroughness of the reporting has nothing to do with questioning the men or the girl's part in this, but thanks for jumping to that conclusion... nice to see prejudice is alive and well with Farkers.
