"It is surely relevant to a conversation about equality that as many as 16% of our species have an IQ below 85, while about 2% have an IQ above 130. The harder you shake the pack, the easier it will be for some cornflakes to get to the top."

Exactly. If you're stupid then it's only right society exploits you and condemns you to a life of poverty. Social Darwinism is really the only way to go, and we shouldn't hate the rich for being smarter and better than us.

Except that's not what he said.

The Mayor of London, who dreams of being Prime Minister, said that the Government had a duty to care for those who could not look after themselves and give everyone else the chance to get on.

Funny how you cut that part of the quote, which sets up the frame of reference before the IQ statement.  Would you like to tell us what part of that you disagree with?

Reeling from the airtight logic of Boris Johnson

2013-12-02 03:40:20 PM
The growing gulf between rich and poor is inevitable because millions of people are too stupid to get on in life, top Tory Boris Johnson suggested tonight.

He's not completely wrong. Working with the general public, after a while you wonder how some people manage to feed themselves.
Most people are just not good with money. You see examples all the time. People that win millions in the lottery, only to be flat broke a few short years later. Or rock stars/athletes that piss away millions and end up losing everything.

Eugenics tends to end badly. Just sayin is all....also, the best way I know to get yourself in trouble is to assume you are smarter than everyone else.

Yeah I agree, but a decent education would fix a lot of those problems. Simple money management classes would go a long way toward bringing a lot of people out of poverty.

2013-12-02 03:44:52 PM
Scientific studies show that the richer you are the less empathy you have for poor people.  This just adds anecdotal evidence. However this is not always the case. For example, You can contrast this jackass with Warren Buffet who has explicitly credited his opportunities on the luck of where and when he was born.

Regurgitating the definition of IQ, then expecting us to take it as a deep and meaningful statement about human intelligence is about as capital-M Moronic as you can get.

Lottery winners and rock/athletes are not the general public.  However, that being said, a lot of people are not necessarily as good with money as others, true.  I would agree that some people are really stupid.  I look at some of my relatives and shudder.

But, shouldn't we all be debating the validity of an IQ test and how it does/doesn't really mean all that much since it is framed in a way that only certain people with certain advantages do well on the test.  If the Germans had not bombed Pearl Harbor, we wouldn't be having this discussion, now would we???  This PM going through life fat, drunk and stupid is no way to spend 7 years of private boarding school.

Controversial: Top Tory Boris Johnson has suggested the gap between the rich and the poor is inevitable because millions of people are too stupid ethical

The reason most people don't drive on the sidewalk during a traffic jam isn't because they're too stupid to realize they could, it's because they're not assholes.  Reaching an extreme level of wealth and power pretty much requires engaging in activities that people of integrity simply cannot bring themselves to do.

His argument basically boils down to "not everyone can be rich." No shiat, moron. I don't think the majority of people want to "stamp out" inequality as much as stop it's current trajectory of growing and growing.

You think that people who can survive off of minimum wage don't know how to make a dollar stretch? Poverty isn't a simple problem of poor people who can't manage money. You have to have money to manage it.

He really is wrong. His point doesn't actually address growing inequality. Sure there are dumb people but that doesn't mean our gap between dumb and smart people is exploding in the same way our wealth gap is.

Hate to say it but the guy has a point, despite being a douche. I know a number of people who make substantially more than me but have little to show for it. It's amazing how much money you can blow on frivolous crap and poor decisions. Not all poor people make bad choices but bad choices often lead to poverty and some will be poor no matter how much they are given. Just look at all the lotto winners and ex celebs that end up broke.

What??? I'm too stupid to get on in life?  You're right, you're absolutely right and I'm going to do something about it.  I'm going to go out and get a vasectomy and remove my stupidity genes from the gene pool--it's the most altruistic thing I can do.  And with the few shekels I save by not having kids, I'll sit around all day getting stoned and not giving three shiats and a piss if a plunging fertility rate worldwide will ultimately doom the Supersonic Nazi Hell Creatures' money supply.

/seriously, what the hell is that thing on his head?

//double-seriously, yes, life is unfair, but that's just a good argument not to waste a single second of your life giving a shiat about the Jehovah Monster

///if you have a warm place to sleep, a steady supply of Herb, scuba-babe pr0n on the computer, and are living semi-off-the-grid, you're experiencing all the joy the world has to offer and you shouldn't waste your time envying the rich

////triple-seriously, what the hell is that thing?  a mop head?  a dead albino raccoon?

//and, yes, the fertility rate worldwide is plunging dramatically--I call it the Last Peasants' Revolt, and the one way of socking it to the rich that will work

Inequality in certain areas of society lead to equality in other areas which in turn lead to inequality in other new areas.

All people, all desires, all opportunities, and everything is apart of a never ending cycle which strives for a perfect and unattainable equilibrium.

FTFA - But he also said: "It is surely relevant to a conversation about equality that as many as 16% of our species have an IQ below 85, while about 2% have an IQ above 130".

Nope, intelligence has little to do with it. Ruthlessness and a complete lack of empathy, morals, and ethics are the main qualifications to reaching that level of rich that most complain about. Then, top it off with inflated ego and overblown self worth and then you begin to understand how these vultures got to the socio-economic position they are in. I have had the misfortune to be associated with a few of these people and they cannot chew gum and walk at the same time. Yet, they are vindictive, greedy, immoral a**hats who would happily steal candy from a baby and then postulate that they should have had the candy from the beginning.

Nice try Mr. Johnson, but you are just proving you are either one of them, or are falling for their rhetoric and dreaming of one day becoming one of them. Sad.

/If I were an Londoner, I would get that guy removed for he certainly does not have the interest of his entire city at heart... just the rich ones.
// "The Mayor of London, who dreams of being Prime Minister, said that the Government had a duty to care for those who could not look after themselves and give everyone else the chance to get on". Well, if you hadn't let your vulture friends game the system to stop allowing that very thought, I might think this sentence was how you really felt. But, we both know what you really think of the unwashed masses, now don't we?
