She's talking nonsense, but I do wish people who believed that would give their land and property back to the descendents of those it was taken from. Otherwise they're having their cake and eating it also.

"Thanksgiving" or in the tongues of the First Nations people "FFS Squanto, couldn't you have just let them starve and then gone back and gotten their beer when they were all dead?" Day.

It flows better in the original language but ya get the gist.

Dammit, Cher! Why didn't you tweet this earlier? If I knew Cher's opinion on Thanksgiving I would have thrown that turkey out the window, gone to the Hard Rock Seminole casino and put my life savings on "green".

Until the recent perversion by Walmart, J C Penney and the rest, Thanksgiving was the one and only holiday that was not about the whole "gimme gimme" vibe.  It was being thankful for what you already have and then sharing it with friends and family.  So, in other words, exactly the opposite of what Cher is going on about.

"Stealing land"?

Oh, you mean what the Native Americans had been doing to each other for thousands of years before any Europeans ever crossed the Atlantic.

give me doughnuts: "Stealing land"?

No, I mean breaking treaties without Congressional approval.

p.s., your an moran.

As someone of similar bloodlines, I have no problem with Thanksgiving because the modern version (before Black Friday ruined it) was a day to spend with family and be thankful for them.

Now, Columbus Day, on the other hand, is a celebration of the butchering of native people. I refuse to celebrate that day on principle alone.

Given that Cher believes she's part Native American, this is understandable. Given the sheer numbers of unemployed people hoping to make some money blogging and reporting on things, every single minute and unimportant utterance of even the most modest interest makes it onto the internet. I'm seeing more mainstream media reports about people's drunken tweets and moronic facebook pages. At least this sentiment makes some kind of sense. I know other people who don't celebrate T-day for a host of reasons, such as vegetarianism, having to work that day, being (or believing they are) all or part Native American, or being the other kind of Indian (H1B).

Actually doesn't the holiday celebrate the plagues that wiped out approximately 90% of the native population of the Americas?

Well, if it wasn't for the Great Satan that is the US, she'd be living in a teepee, or where ever the Indians would be now, This is why as much as I'm accused of being a "lib", I'm not a total leftist. You can't benefit from everything this country has afforded you and then condemn the manner in which it was formed. I mean you can because we have free speech but it makes you a tool.

Little chimpanzees
We hear it from the people of the town
They call us little chimpanzees
And every night all the men would come around
To lay the monkey down

I don't know what that means, but that is how I used to sing it when I was a child.
OK, I still sing it that way when I am alone in the car.
OK, even when I am not alone in the car.
Oh hell, it is now a reflex to just sing it that way all time no matter who is around.

It still works perfectly with those lyrics.

THIS. It is not like they didn't have the room to spare. Also: Most North American aborigines were basically living in a stone age culture; they didn't even have the wheel

Actually, the Pilgrims moved onto the site of an abandoned village that had been wiped out by some European disease, and the local Native Americans didn't really give a shiat because the English had good stuff to trade and they wanted them as allies against enemy tribes.

Of course, a couple generations later the colonial population started exploding and the colonists really got into the land-stealing and mass warfare against former allied tribes game. (Although even at that time they still had native allies helping them crush rival Indian tribes)

Anyway, just saying don't let facts get in the way of your outrage.

I do find it ironic that a woman who is famous for a song that includes a racial slur against the Roma people in the title is complaining about racial improprieties.

That said, I rather like the word "gypsy", and think the Roma should get over it. It has changed in meaning over the years, and one could argue most people in the western world see it in a more positive light, now.

Basically this.  Sure, things got bad later on but the grade school image of the pilgrims joining together with the natives to celebrate and share in the harvest bounty is a pretty accurate portrayal of what the first Thanksgiving was like.
