So outsmarting your opponent is cheating now?

Yeah one quote by the opposing team after a close and emotional loss must obviously mean the pats are cheating or something.

America was founded on cheating.

Ask JP Morgan. Well, he's dead. But, you get the idea.

It's a Wade-Phillips-coached defense. Putting your helmet on facing the right way puts you a step ahead of Wade Phillips.

Don't worry Antonio - it's Belichick's last season. He tops Obama's short list to head NSA.

He'd turn it down. He has a better org working for him already. And it'd be a pay cut.

Texans keep losing, so obviously it must be someone else's fault.
Whatever dude.

Yeah, because every team out there does not have a file on Wade Phillips and all of the schemes he has used throughout his many years......

He then began clutching his throat and gasping for air.  Reporters looked up to see Darth Hoodie using a Force choke.

Yes.  Because it's not like Houston hasn't been sucking the rest of the season.

As much as I hate New England, this seems like a bit of a nonstory. Vague references to an offensive adjustment that none of the professional commentators, many of whom are retired players, noticed?

2013-12-02 02:51:45 AM
Sure thing, Houston.  I'm certain that ten-game loss streak is just an aberration, right?

Clearly, Belichick had the Texans locker room bugged.

Wade has got a ton of tricks that Belichick and Brady have never seen before.

I love how this story being picked up gives legs to something that as of yet has absolutely no evidence, yet just by talking about it, it will hurt the Patriots reputation. Not being sarcastic, it genuinely pleases me. Now we just need a Browns player to make up something about Roethlisberger and get ESPN and sports radio talking about it. Something like, "I wasn't there myself, but my girlfriend was at a bar, and her friend said Ben was there and he cupped her butt as she walked by and made a kissy face at her." It's just believable enough to be true. What a scumbag, am I right, guys? Treats women like garbage.

Just say "Ben refilled my girlfriend's wine glass, then he asked her out for coffee in an elevator." Then you'll see real feminist outrage.

If the Patriots didn't look so much like dogshiat in the first half, this may have had a chance of credibility.

You mean a team with a coach and quarterback who are considered two of the best in the NFL today are able to come up with and execute a series of adjustments based on 30 minutes of play?  Color me shocked.  Isn't that why they're paid millions of dollars a year?  They were in the same situation with Denver last week, and I didn't hear any of their defensive players whining about cheating.

unless they literally just invented the scheme - never before seen in the NFL ever, chances are a good team with experience would spot the scheme on the fly and adjust at some point

that's kind of a trademark of a lot of teams... most famously recently the Manning brothers' teams (last week's Denver-NE game was more the exception for Peyton than the rule)

the reality is bad teams think everybody is either cheating or using magic

Do the Patriots still have the snowplow suspended over their Patriots ring of honor at their stadium? If so I bet there is a video camera on the snowplow's seat.

I think the suggestion was that they were responding to defensive schemes they hadn't seen yet.

That being said, I'm not sure I believe them. The Texans just suck.

Because every time a team adjusts anything new into their scheme it means an instant Super Bowl ring because the other team hasn't seen it before and stands there dumbfounded unsure how to react.

Well let's think about this.

--Reputation of cheating so can't be TOO obvious
--Try to win without cheating in the first half because why cheat unless you have to?
--Cheating in 2nd half appears as "adjustments" (just look at this thread)
--Make sure what your intel tells you is accurate in the first half then go for the throat in the 2nd
--The other team will not have as much time to adjust

I'm not saying the allegations are true. But they COULD be true, and this is why you'd wait until the 2nd half.

How many people thought the Pats were cheating 10 years ago?

so what you're saying is any team that comes back in the second half is cheating? or the possibility of cheating?

After the way they were so harshly punished for the last time they cheated?
After the way the NFL so meticulously looked into something so mysterious as a stroke suffered by a 32 year-old? "PEDs, what in heaven's name are those?"

As an unfortunate fan of the Texans and this goddawful lost season they are having, I think Antonio Smith is just grasping at straws here.  The Texans secondary was in the right places most of the game, Brady just made some perfect throws where only the receivers in tight coverage could get it and they caught the ball.  The lack of pressure on Brady in the 2nd half compared to the first is what allowed him the time to make those throws.  I think that's what Smith is probably frustrated about.

I think the more blatant criticism should be about how the Pats were not flagged once in the entire game for penalties of any kind when there were a few pretty obvious pass interference calls missed as well as a few tackles on Watt while going after Brady that were overlooked as well.  Granted the Texans only had 2 flags against them which is a low number as well, but not one flag against the Patriots?  Really?

bingethinker: So outsmarting your opponent is cheating now?

THIS.

So in the first half the Patriots were stymied. But since they were, you know, actually THERE playing the game, they saw what you were doing on defense and made adjustments. How many times did the camera cut away to Belichick on the sidelines, huddled up with the players, reviewing in-game photos, etc? Nope. Has to be cheating. No direct allegation, no example of what's being  alleged. Just throw the word "cheating" out there and see what happens.

It's even better when most of the people referring to "spy gate" don't even understand why Belichick and Patriots were fined, and what exactly they were doing that people labeled "cheating."

1. Yes, because first round draft picks are practically worthless.
2. They did look into Bruschi's stroke, it was caused by a patent foramen ovale, or a hole in his heart. SO unless his mom was taking PEDs while he was in utero, they probably didn't cause it.
3.When did cheaters not win? What fantasy land do you live in that the good guys win, the bad guys lose, and England prevails?
