Anyone who puts up more than half a million Christmas lights is an ass.

I thought LED's would cost less than that. Imagine the bill with old school incandescent lights.

Not so bright.

I've got 3 lights up for this Christmas. Assuming porch lights still count.

machoprogrammer: Good use of electricity.

Others think so:

News of the Richards family's exploits has spread, and the energy company ActewAGL is covering the cost of the lighting. As part of, yep, its green energy program.

'Cuz they care about the environment just that much.

The electric company is covering the cost because "green energy"?  That actually makes absolutely no sense.  They're covering it for publicity?  Sure.  But, from an environmental perspective, the holiday display is incredibly wasteful, there's nothing green about miles and miles of fossil fuel derived plastic and thousands of dollars of energy useage.  That's like covering someone's 20,000 calorie a day low-fat, organic frozen dinner habit because you want to promote a "healthy diet".

I'm putting up twice as many Christmas lights as I did last year (2 * 0). I may double it again next year.

c9 bulb or die. i'm old school those bulbs from the 50's and 60's gave off so much heat they would melt the ice and snow around it. yes i grew up somewhere that actually got storms dumping several feet of snow or a layer of ice.

We didn't start putting up lights until the neighborhood nazis started asking everyone to only put up white lights or wreaths.  We're adding a strand or two each year now, and always at varying speeds or patterns.
