"If marijuana was a 'miracle' drug it would be legal all over the country. "

"kids with their hats on sideways, getting high "

This is the dumbest person in Colorado isn't it?

Just medical use? Because we wouldn't want people just feeling good whenever they wanted.

Really? exactly how many medical studies have shown beneficial results from using crack?

Although the letter-writer is from Colorado, this is a Pennsylvania paper. Sadly, the commenter you quote is probably not the dumbest person in PA, although his other comments do suggest he cracks the top ten.

He said "Here in Colorado," so I assumed he wasn't actually from PA. Who knows with that guy, though.

I love smoking weed. I've been smoking marijuana since I was 15 and I don't regret one minute of it. In fact, I think it's time to load another bowl.

Hooray!

I wish it were legal.  My legal narcotics for my back pain just made me sleep all the time, and didn't stop the worst of it.

To be fair, it's probably effective for weight loss, though I'd imagine the downsides outweigh that benefit.

Still floors me that we put people in prison for being in possession of a relatively harmless plant, but you can damned sure get booze (harmful if abused) and cigarettes (no safe use whatsoever).

I'm sorry. You should be able to have whatever helps you. I know back troubles are the worst.

I've said on FARK before, weed is the ONLY thing that can tame hot flashes. All the recommended and prescribed remedies just made matters worse. Sometimes, much worse.

Hang in there. I hope things improve for you.

In college, I woke up with gravity bongs. That was breakfast. Then, I became a grown up and set it aside.

A few weeks ago, I was gifted with an amount for a tiny puff. I took all precautions: Closed all the blinds in the house, turned off all lights and turned the TV way down. I was going to watch Gladiator.

Instead, I ended up hiding in the closet. That wasn't so bad. What was bad is that I solved all the world's problems while toiling with paranoia. And, I forgot to write it down.

So if it's so good..

Would you agree it would be right for prisons to grow it and then sell it to the prisoners? Thus reducing prison violence while increasing commissary sales?

Absolutely, although I think selling THC-loaded crackers would be  better than selling a product that requires ignition. And be sure the selling price is extremely cheap; shiat, maybe just give the stuff away like we did cigarettes in WWII.

A bit too late to the party, man. Most of the country has a favorable view of weed legalization according to polls.

There are all sorts of things which are legal and acceptable for adults to do, but which we don't allow prisoners access to. You might be able to make a case that letting prisoners buy a prostitute's services would reduce violence, too, but I don't think we should be trucking in hookers from the Bunny Ranch to ADX Florence, either.

How about we stop throwing innocent people in prison for victimless crimes first? When half the prisons are empty we can start talking about creature comforts for the actual criminals remaining.

Just as much for the government employees who run the vast majority of prisons. I really think the "for-profit prisons" explanation misses a lot of what's really going on. Look at the breakdown opposing legalization ballot initiatives- law enforcement groups, alcohol wholesalers, and social conservative 'family values' groups make up the bulk of it. I'm not saying privatized prisons aren't part of the problem, but getting rid of them all tomorrow wouldn't really do much to end the problems of drug prohibition and mass incarceration. Only 3.7% of the US prison population is in a privately-run prison, and switching back to state control wouldn't free a single one of them.

Not recreationally, but it's definitely being floated. In the meantime, if you're caught with small quantities (allegedly), policia will give you the stink eye. I'm honestly not sure about therapeutic applications.

First night we were here, we went to a local place and the waiter (now our friend) came out with a pipa (small pipe) for the table. No one really gets into your face about much here. Their big worries are human trafficking, illegal immigration and blow. Where we are, we don't have those dramas. You'll find them more on the Caribbean coast.

I'm not even saying I'd favor doing away with privatized prisons altogether. Just that they've abused their position. Also, the Weeners was about not tossing non-violent drug offenders in jail in the first place. I would love nothing more than to see them all pardoned. Of course, that's a pipe dream. Erm... no pun intended.

Not that I'm against medical cannabis, but I do think politicizing a medicine is a stupid thing to do. Medicines are medicines and their usage should be an issue of research findings, not popular opinion. I'm all for removing limitations on medical research involving cannabis, but outright allowing it to be prescribed willy-nilly is essentially there just to create a recreational back door.

If you want to legalize it fully, go ahead and campaign for that, but don't drag science into the political mud just for your ideological issues. I'm also surprised, apparently the history of medical science isn't a hundred some-odd years but thousands. You know, the person is a bit idiotic when they say not a single death is attributable to cannabis when there are proven deaths from cannabis use. And don't give me that 'you can't OD' crap, because you can't OD on tobacco either.

It's not that you CAN'T overdose on marijuana.  Technically, you can overdose on most anything, including table salt and water.  It's just that to get there smoking weed is impossible, you would probably die of carbon monoxide poisoning long before you got that far.  In theory, you could extract pure THC and inject a lethal dose.  Everything has an LD50.

Pot is good. It should be legal. The fact that it is still illegal in many places in this day and age is just dumb.

It sucks billions of the dollars out of the economy and puts it into the black market of organized crime, empowering them more and more year after year.
