Or as some Farkers would say a good weekends worth.

Big deal. I celebrated my one millionth bottle of whiskey halfway through my freshman year of college.

/That's... that's about all I remember of my freshman year, come to think of it.

Rye whiskey, rye whiskey, rye whiskey I cry
If I don't get rye whiskey I surely will die

It's really good stuff.  My favorite brown liquor on the market these days, hands down.

Good ol' boys drinking whiskey and rye,
Singing this'll be the day that I die,
This will be the day that I die.

For someone who occasionally enjoys bourbon but can find it too sweet sometimes, is rye worth a shot?  If so, is Templeton a good introduction?

Templeton and Bullit are the good widely available ones.    There are some local producers I fancy as well.  If you like bourbon, you'll probably enjoy the ryes.

Yes, bourbon and rye are basically the same except for the proportion of the grains used. Bourbon is at least 51% corn and rye is at least 51% rye. Corn is sweet and rye is spicy.

Bulleit Rye and Templeton are both 95% rye with no corn at all. In fact, they come from the same distillery in Indiana. If you want to work your way up to that, you could start with Old Overholt, 51% rye.

If the sea were rye whiskey and I was a duck
I'd swim to the bottom and never come up

Just started drinking rye this year, very nice.  Have been switching between bourbon and rye for about 6 months now.  I've been drinking less and less Scotch. I'll have to try this one.

No, not really, but go back to your Zima if you don't like liquor.

Rye, the essential ingredient in a Manhattan.  Don't foul up the Manhattan with bourbon.  It must be rye, to offset the vermouth.  And Templeton is all right.

Yes, Manhattan is martini, because I am having more than one.

Rittenhouse is inexpensive and quite good.

McStubbins: Rittenhouse is inexpensive and quite good.

Particularly, when you buy it at Costco.  This is the rye I've started with over the last 6 months.

That is all.

/I like Bullitt too, and it's less expensive
//But this is sooo good.

My sister and I had a fantastic time in Temple Bar last week with my new best friend, John Powers.

If you know someone who wants to learn how to drink whiskey, this is the one to start with. It has a delicate flavor compared to most whiskeys, especially among ryes. Ideal for a Manhattan, but also delicious all by itself. There are more interesting whiskeys on the market, more complex flavor profiles and stronger drink out there, but Templeton is always a good choice.

I drained the last drops from a bottle this weekend. It was a bottle from some years ago when it was truly small batch, with handwritten labels and everything. Just one more of those bottles left in my collection.
