Fark, that is the most cliche'd BÖC song to like.

Back in the 70's when my older brother took a break from D&D (chainmail version) we were into this song:
Blue Oyster Cult - Black Blade

This week I reviewed the new album from Wolfheart - "Winterborn". Excellent Finnish melodic death metal, somewhere between Reinkaos-era Dissection and Insomnium. Routa Pt. 2 official video. Good stuff.

Bucik Dharma for the win.

Also, ETI is clearly the superior choice:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-BulIM5xwE

Saw them in the Spectrum in Philly and then at Bader field in AC.

Excellent shows, tho how we managed to get back alive after the AC show is still a puzzle.

I love the sound, but growlers kill it for me. :/ Any chance you could toss some bands my way, similar sound but clearer vocals?

Adebisi: Orchid - Wizard of War

I like Orchid but they take the Sabbath worship to ridiculous levels. I don't think I've heard a song by them that wasn't basically a variation of an existing Ozzy era song.

There's virtually no clean singing in melodic death metal or in extreme metal (that I can think of at the moment)..one band I like who is on that side of metal and who sings cleanly is Charred Walls of the Damned. I really like this band.

Sorry senior citizens, but dad rock isn't metal, no matter how hip you think you are.

In actual metal news, the new Satan's Host dropped last week and it's pretty awesome.

Adebisi: BOC wasn't metal when they were metal.

Here's some trad/doom I enjoyed this year:

Hell - Darkhangel

Orchid - Wizard of War

Solstice - I Am the Hunter

Vista Chino - Planets 1 & 2

Victor Griffin's In-Graved - Late for an Early Grave

Ghost - Per Aspera Ad Inferi

What about the new Devil's Table or Lucifer's Truck? When are those going to drop?

The new Ghost EP is pretty good. I don't know why I like Crucified so much, but I do. Is this song famous before this cover? It seems really familiar. I'm pretty sure they used it as house music after their encore last time I saw them, but I doubt it stuck with me just from that. I don't know where I know it from.

so the new Alcest track kind of sucks. I guess Neil Halstead doing some guest vocals should've been a good indicator that he's moving into a (more) Shoegaze direction. I wouldn't normally have a problem with that, but the results aren't very interesting. ... Maybe it'll make more sense in context of the album.

Although one might argue whether it should count as a BÖC album in the first place...

Leader O'Cola: Another week, another non-metal band goes green in a topic supposedly about metal.

They had a song by that name, appeared on the eponymous movie's sound track and IIRC the term saw one of it's first prominent uses when their producer described their style of music.

But here we go, strangely enough for some people it ain't metal if it doesn't contain enough elements of what's basically punk.

Exclusively clean? I can't think if many bands. Lots of mixed vocals styles though, especially in pagan/viking and progressive death metal though.

After Ayreon sucked me into both prog rock and metal simultaneously back in high school, BOC was one of the first I grabbed onto. Don't Fear the Reaper might be the predictable choice, but that doesn't stop the song from being fan-frickin'-tastic.

Speaking of my weak attempt at a tangent, Ayreon released a new album last month, and I've been binging on it like a madman. Have a taste!

I know, right? Everyone knows the only real metal is a Luxembourgian prog-melodic-death-glam-swing-doom-prog  band named Gerflelgefurnen. The guitarist is actually a Tourette's patient who just holds a pick and twitches and the singer does nothing but growls like Cookie Monster with a bad case of taco shiats.
Everything else is not true metal. And your favorite bands suck.

And why is that? Several of their tunes have heavy guitars, intricate solos, occultish lyrics. They're as much a metal band as someone like Dio. Hell, they even bore the brunt of the first wave of Satanic Panic in the 70s.

I know their not obscure enough to only have the fandom of six neck bearded basement dwellers and the clerk staff at Hot Topic, but that does not disqualify them by some "No true metal" rule.
