Did he lock himself in a gym bag?

Um, if the alternative working theories are self-inflicted (1st party), or "3rd party involved" (meaning, presumably, someone else was there)... who... exactly is the 2nd party that actually killed him? The cops?

2013-12-01 09:58:44 AM
Officers said they were keeping an open mind but one theory is that his wounds were "self-inflicted"

Mr Maine was one of a number of people arrested by police as part of a long-running investigation into alleged mortgage fraud.

Running kit? How does one fit inside a duffle bag filled with a sweaty jock strap, deodorant, sneakers and nipple tape? British people must be very flexible.

2013-12-01 09:58:56 AM
Let's see... say he *did* dispose of the weapon... OK, then, one would think that there would be a blood trail from where he disposed of the weapon to where his body was found of *some* kind. And then there is the logic of someone committing suicide *disposing of the weapon*. This sounds more and more like him being killed by someone he defrauded, the police knowing perfectly well who did it, and the police deciding to cover it up for the killer.

Those entry wounds in his back are going to be hard to explain.

He tied a balloon to the knife and threw it in the river. It was carried downstream until enough air leaked out and it sank far enough away that they won't find it. Just as believable as the plot to the latest Elementary where a woman shoots herself in the head with the gun tied to a weight thrown over the side of a bridge in order to frame a mass murderer for her murder.

With a investigation mentality like that  it gives a little insight why the British Empire collapsed!

Suicide is one theory.  They haven't closed the books on murder.  More than likely the person who made the comments is just a spokesperson, and not an investigator involved with the case.

Thank goodness they got rid of the guns there.

This totally wouldn't have happened with guns.

With the spy in the duffel bag trick and now this, I have to give it to the Brits for their imaginative suicides. They are almost as cunning as some of those colored people in Mississippi that try to frame the local law enforcement by shooting themselves in the back of the head 8 times while handcuffed in the back of a cruiser.

BBC reports, you decide.

However, there are other equally plausible lines of inquiry, which include third party involvement...
So excuse me for asking but what the hell does this mean? They found one person dead so who was the second party Officer Genius?

A duffle bag with sweats, shoes, a water bottle and a pedometer in it.  This guy would have to be pretty damn small to fit in one.

Or a guy who wanted his beneficiaries to get his life insurance, which they would not receive if he was found to have committed suicide.
