Yeah, it's sort of like the politically-neutral, even-dumber cousin of Kos and TownHall.  I think I'm done giving Salon links the benefit of the doubt.

tl;dr

Author of TFA could have just posted some copypasta from the franchise burbclave portions of Snowcrash. It would have been more to the point, better written, and way less pretentious.

So...it's a search engine.  Seriously, it seeks out data related to your search.  It's not a goddamn spiritual adviser.  If you want to know what the capital of Timbuktu is, type it in.  If you want to know who created the Universe, better start reading some books.  There are several, depending upon your taste.

Don't they call those boxes phylacteries?  They're kinda dorky looking, but you could get a few Vicodin, a couple of joints, a roach clip, maybe a mini-Bic, a few Bazooka Joe comics, and a condom in them, so they'd have some use...

I read Salon and Slate a lot, but one thing I don't like is I'm convinced the writers are paid by the word. You have to get 5 paragraphs deep into it before any semblance of a point is made.

There's a local rag in San Diego called The Reader, where I am convinced that is the space: The main article is more of a brain dump than a story or article with any sort of point. It fills about 20% of each page, the rest being filled with ads for cosmetic surgery (male and female) and calls for clinical trial participants, the main article spanning maybe 20 pages.

What is Google's religion?

Playing God. Probably based on the Christian religion, but revised for the modern world.

This - boil that article down to it's basics and it says: "Corporate hucksters try to convince you that their products and services have magical powers - don't buy into it"
A sound point of view, but it could have been stated in a third of the words, easily..

The same reason that we are awash in articles from the likes of WND, Townhall, Brietbart and Reason. Not ALL idiocy issues from the right end of the political spectrum - just the vast preponderance of it. We need a little lefty dumf**kery to balance it out now and then.

Salon once again shows its content fluffing prowess and ability to segue into uncomfortable political topics from every. single. topic.

well, at least I learned a new word: "phylacteries"
Always wondered what the silly front-head boxes where for: magial papers!
I assume If they have papers in there, they could stash weed too and it can't be searched because of the same reasons they don't have to work.
Who'd have thought israel is stoner paradise?

It might be worth skimming the article one more time, and maybe checking out the links if you've got time. I think the key word there is "seems", in the context of the argument the author is trying to make.

Why won't Google tell me what religion to be?

But they do as the author points out in his needlessly exhaustive article: "Neocolonialist Googlites".

2013-12-01 07:29:21 AM
So a college friend of mine, raised in the US in a Hindu family, now living in Iceland, posted on FB that "Gita and Surya are playing with the Nativity scene and hiding the Baby Jesus." Which prompted me to ask if she was now a Christian, since she's got a tree and Nativity scene and how broadminded she is to be raising her family in such an open way...

Turns out Gita and Surya are cats.

That was retarded. The partition of India isn't a legacy of colonialism, it was the end of colonialism.

I actually took an online test that determined your religious beliefs. It made a pretty good guess, (at the time, Mainstream Christianity,) but I had to look up the third result: Baha'i.
