The Pope seems to have a particular disdain for the prosperity Gospel. He will be making quite a few enemies on the right side of the political spectrum in the US. If he wants to visit here, he better do it before Obama is out of office if it looks like a Republican is will win in.... oh hell, I'm not even going to bother finishing that

Yep, the Pope is going out of his way to distance the Church from the prosperity folks, using some old texts nobody reads anymore.

He's only infallible when speaking on matters of dogma under certain circumstances.

Calmamity: The Pope? Isn't he that infallible guy? Or is that just for when you agree with him?

No, he's not infallible all the time. But preaching the Gospels seems to upset some Christians. Go figure. Francis will have an unusual effect on US voting, though that's probably not his intent. But Catholics will have to choose between the ravings of their Bishops or the teachings of the Pope.

The Pope does not care about a school of thought borne in the US on the extreme right of the evangelical Protestant Christian movement.  And he doesn't cater to US politicians, US politicians cater to him.

I vote D against the need for an abortion except in rape, incest or health reasons. Democrats actually want to and try to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Republicans hope the power of prayer takes care of it. Being Louisiana, I would say against abortion, though

The Pope hasn't actually changed any doctrine at all, he's just stressing different aspects of it.  Bishops can still rail against abortion and homosexuality without taking a hit.

It was just a general threat. Voting Catholics can be a dangerous thing, cause you are never quite sure which issue they are supporting.

I should have been clearer - I don't think he cares about the opinions of people who invented it and continue to spread it.  I think he cares very much that it's a bullshiat philosophy that corrupts what he considers the true nature of Jesus' teachings.

"I go to church to save my soul. It's got nothing to do with my vote. Pope Francis has linked the two. He has offered direct criticism of a specific political system. He has characterized negatively that system. I think he wants to influence my politics."

Strangely enough I agree with him, sadly I believe he is probably a little hypocritical.

Okay, I'm confused.  Varney said:

"I go to church to save my soul. It's got nothing to do with my vote. Pope Francis has linked the two. He has offered direct criticism of a specific political system. He has characterized negatively that system. I think he wants to influence my politics."

Does this mean that Fox News now supports the separation of Church and State and believes that religion has no place in politics?

Why don't you people tell me when Fox changes the rules?  How am I supposed to keep up?

Really Stuart? It took the Pope to criticize Caplitialism for you to finally recognize the obvious? It wasn't the social issues crusade against gay marriage or abortion, it was this that made you realize something that even the most lapsed Catholic could spot a mile away?

He really backs up my theory that Wall Street Analysts are nothing but clueless bullshiat artists.

Conservatives really seem to lack even the vaguest sense of irony. Their umbrage that the Pope would take a political position just makes me shake my head in astonishment.

Holy shait, I think they need to add this section of this FoxNews interview to the definition of hypocrisy.

These asshats have been using the pulpit for years for pushing political agendas and it's been getting worse and worse. They've gone as far as using the Supreme Court to try to stop the ACA from making employers have insurance coverage of birth control. You can't get more clearer of an example of religious folks influence politics.

But Jack Chick told me that the Pope has the names of all the real true Christians in a giant computer in the Vatican so he knows who to track down and kill when the papists institute a new world order by backing the USSR in a war with the USA.

Its awesome watching the prosperity gospel types trip over their dicks just because the pope pointed out that Christ wasn't very fond of greedy assholes who refused to change their ways.
