Looks like it was a beautiful car.
Too bad they used a rotary engine.

Might have taken Mazda this long to decide to can the project or figure out what went wrong.

Coming in 2014, the Mazda Phoenix!

No.

Look at it this way. The article could preemptively stop you wondering.

Why wasn't there any discussion about what went wrong? And, of course, they got to the point of actually building a running version and then scrapped the entire thing?

The same thing that happens to every other concept car, 99% of which never go into production?

2013-11-30 03:27:25 PM
I've never heard of that car until this thread, and judging from the photos in TFA, it's no surprise I haven't heard of it. Gorgeous body paneling, but it looks like it's basically just another formula 1 race car. Difficult and expensive to make, sure . . . but not exactly groundbreaking, aside from the wanker engine.

What a pity.  Such a beautiful car, now nothing more than smoke and memories.

Nah. It's something like this: Captain Slow heard that it was connected somehow to the Nurburgring and then...

...it was gone in a blaze of "glory"

/Glory in this case meaning "flaming petrol"

Does it come with air conditioning? It's pretty obvious that it has heat.

My parents used to have a Cocker Spaniel who looked just like James May.

If you could imagine removing James May's head and affixing it to a dog's body ... that was the dog

Seriously. That's some quality car porn.

Also, having not seen a picture of the Furai for probably five years, it's neat to see how much family resemblance there is to the current generation of Mazdas.

I once babysat a six-year-old the size of Richard Hammond.
