Fark off, subby, I like Green Day.

Is it 1999 already?

2013-11-30 10:29:29 AM
They were still around?

Subby sounds like a Miley/Katy/autotune fan.

It is music.
I liked them when they called themselves "The Buzzcocks"

And what's with their singer sounding like he's British, amirite subby?

/never understood that complaint

I liked punk before they went pop

I'm not a Green Day fan at all, but this was both unexpected and surprisingly awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R_rhdglVBk

It's a Christmas miracle!

I remember when pop-punk started getting popular.  Slayer put out a "real punk" cover album called "Undisputed Attitude" and Anthrax wrote a great song called "Packaged Rebellion".  ("it's anarchy with a friendly face...revolution on your sleeve")

Green Day has always been pretty bad, outside of "American Idiot" which was a pretty remarkable record, especially for them. Then they went right back to making filler garbage not even 1 album later.

i do like green day, nothing spectacular to be sure but aside from "time of your life" generally tends to put me in a good mood and therefore makes for good traveling music... but i will NEVER be able to erase the image in my mind from the milton keynes concert dvd when tre cool gets up to take his bow, revealing the sweat stain...  i fully understand how it happens, i DON'T understand why the editors couldn't find a different camera shot...

I'd get bored playing the same rift over and over again too, carrying the same tune for almost two decades is admirable determination.  God speed sirs into the anals of one trick pony bands like Nickel Back, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Linkin Park, Nine Inch Nails (post Downward Spiral) and Iron Maiden.  You deserve it.

These jokers have been top 40 for years yet people talk about how hardcore they are. Good riddance to these prepackaged "losers."

The Sex Pistols and The Clash were both prepackaged, so there's that to consider.

I feel I should also add I am particularly biased against these guys because when they got big back in the 90's a bunch of my friends fell in love them. My friends were idiots so they had to make fun of the music I listened to and how I should listen to real punk like them. I should not be listening to that crap I was listening to like The Ramones or The Clash. Green Day is real punk rock!

Yeah but at least The Sex Pistol's bass player had the courtesy to kill himself and Joe Strummer actually had something to say.

Come now, as a former giant fan of Iron Maiden myself in my in early teens I cannot deny that apart from the first and last 15 seconds almost every song sounds the same. :)

You apparently have not listened to them since your early teens. (although, yea, their last couple albums are a bit monotonous)

I tried a while back, Bruce's voice has taken some damage that can't be unheard.  Which is sad because that man is a walking inspiration.

Punk rock should be reserved to people under forty.

And would it hurt to learn a fourth chord?

These guys and 311 should do a concert together.

They're not exactly the Sex Pistols, nor are they Dream Theater, but Billie Joe & Co. can write a decent tune. Hopefully they get back together at some point.

Bubble gum punk!!

Reader's Digest condensed punk.

Punk with all the genuine threat, visceral angst and political commentary removed but with the disposable image left in tact.

....gonna have to listen to "The Argument" by FUGAZI today. Last truly great "punk" album I have heard in quite awhile.

It works very well. And the idea of the tribute was actually his to start with.

Guess that means the story of them touring with U2 really was just drunk talk.

Grateful as I really hate Green Day and was thrilled to see them die at the beginning of the Simpsons Movie.

2013-11-30 03:03:54 PM
Considering that they released 3 albums in a row, I think they deserve a break.
