Really?  How so?

I've always thought of Log Cabin Republicans as gay people who believe honestly in the other 95% of the GOP platform, and have somehow found a way to reconcile the idea that their political party thinks they're subhuman because they're gay.  I don't understand it, but I've never thought of them as "broken".

Whatt part am I missing?

Every single one I've known (and I've dated a few, too) basically believes that Rush Limbaugh is right about everything from immigration to reproduction, except for gay rights. They're bigots and sociopaths who don't want to pay taxes while espousing everything vile about the Republican platform. I find them worthy of ridicule and scorn. My best friend turned into one. He'll go on Breitbart-like rant about "leftists" and "socialists," as he is planning (I swear I'm not kidding) his wedding to another man in New York.

There's a good number of homosexuals who believe in the REST of the conservative platform.

Oh for fark's sake.  Yeah, that is messed up.

It reminds me of the woman I knew with whom I shared an interest in 20th century German history - she thought the Nazis were right about everything but sending gays and lesbians to the camps to be killed, and women's role in society (as breeders of soldiers).  She was trying to put together a male SS uniform for herself.  She wore replica Wehrmacht dogtags.  She swore loyalty to Hitler's vision every morning, the same way some people make a quick prayer upon rising.  It never seemed to occur to her that, were she alive in Nazi Germany, she would have been shipped off to Ravensbrück and worked to death, or shipped to one of the male camps to be put in a brothel.

Once I figured her out, I kind of sidled toward the door of our acquaintance with my hands in my pockets, whistling.

Anyway, I can't understand at all how gay people can join the GOP.  How can you possibly support any organization that wants you to disappear?

She's just upset that when she posted that "Seeking REAL American Man to thoroughly roger my nethers while Reagan movies play on the hotel TV" Craigslist ad during the RNC all the GOP delegates angrily stormed out when she revealed that -- despite the photo and outward evidence -- she was actually a woman.

If we had a political party that cared about the country and bothering people as little as possible and letting them live their lives as they see fit whilst not infringing upon another's right to do the same I'd join.

Until then I'll be watching Munsters re-runs (and she'll probably feature in them).

Political parties are a compromise, I guess. A lot of people who you'd (by demographics) expect to be one party, belong to the other. Until maybe the early 2000's, neither party was especially welcoming to GLBT voters, and in some cases (I'm thinking heavily union-centric, catholic Boston perhaps) the Dems could have been just as stridently anti-gay as the GOP.

In local elections, emotion-driven issues like gay rights or gun control usually aren't relevant,  so someone who might always vote one way on federal elections might go the other way for a local office.

Not saying that's what's at work here, just one of the possibilities that comes to mind.

No matter WHAT you believe, you DO NOT want this person on your "side".

Lackofname:

Bingo.  Rich gays have always enjoyed whatever arrangement they liked, short of actual marriage.  It doesn't mean that opposing taxes and social programs is inherently hypocritical for a gay person, but they are obviously following a self-interest agenda that is foreign to less-wealthy people who rely on government to protect their human rights.

I agree, but it doesn't have to be that extreme; there is no single party of significance that I agree with even 70% on.  I'm about 40% with republicans and democrats, about 50% for libertarians.  Plenty of pro-choice Republicans, for example.  Plenty of pro-life Democrats.

The liberal perception of the Republican party probably has it being more anti-gay than it is in reality.  I'm not saying that it isn't anti-gay, but I'm sure there are locations that are reasonable, much like how many boy scout troops 'welcomed' gay leaders and members as long as they were willing to not stir up corporate.

While I would love to see that, recent polls show TP supporters at about 20% of the GOP, and falling.

Since the TP was quickly taken over by the evangelicals, gun nuts, racists, and homophobes, I hope their days are numbered.
