Gaga. Why, you ask? Because she insists upon herself.

Miley, by a longshot. Gaga doesn't have to try.

Subby hasn't seen much Japanese culture if he thinks that was weird by their standards. It doesn't even come close.

Seconded.  You think that tweener anime you watched in high school was off the wall?  Brother you ain't seen nothing.

Why didn't gaga use the same make up techniques that those Russian chicks use to get the big eyed look? I'm no fan of either, but it seems like a critical awareness failure.

Whoever did her makeup sucks at it, the reflections are wrong. They gave her derp eyes.

Because the goofy anime eyes painted over the eyelids isn't as new as some of you folks think it is and it's fairly specific to Japan. You know, the country she was in at the time?

All I was saying is that it looks a lot different and is arguably a superior make up effect. I guess if the intention was to evoke a retro styled image to the look and hence taking on the cruder version, than she must have succeeded?

I often don't get what Lady Gaga is trying to accomplish, but I suspect that the failing is mine, not hers. Anyway, I'm glad she's around. I suspect that there's a lot more to her, than most of the insubstantial pop-tarts that the media machine foists on us. What I wouldn't give for just one Janis Joplin type actual musician to be promoted and nurtured by the increasingly soulless music industry. Nowadays, if you ain't pretty, you might as well find another line of work. We're missing out on a lot of good music and entertainment, when we reject anyone who isn't a sex-goddess or god.

Does anyone else think a lot of J-pop girls bands sound like The Chipmunks?

Pulled that up and there was a link to illegal street racing in Tokyo, which led me to Grand Prix motorcycles, which led me to Isle of Mann 2013.   All in all a nice progression.

Thanks

The performance with Elton John was amazing. You can clearly tell how much they like playing together. I think those two would be perfect for a Super Bowl halftime show.

pro tip: if you're going to paint big anime eyes on your eyelids, don't ruin the effect by wearing huge fake eyelashes.

Wow, thanks.  First time I've seen someone plug me without me begging.

I should update that.  The YouTube channel has a few more recent ones with slightly better production values (ie, it's less blurry).

Excellent! I'll be checking them out. I love this kind of work on YouTube. If I'm going to waste time there, I like to learn something.

Also, I guess I have to say that as far as my complaint about the recording industry and "beautiful people", sometimes the talented less attractive people just don't work out, like one of my favorites, Amy Winehouse.

They've been pretty close as friends for a while - long enough that Elton asked her to be the Godmother to his adopted son.

Okay... I watched her Christmas special. Because it was her and The Muppets. I have a confession to make. I came out on the other end kind of a fan. She HAS talent. No auto-tune, and the songs while not my cup of tea were solid and you could really see influences of people like Bonnie Tyler in the voice at times and a lot of early Elton John (who she sang with) and a LOT of Bowie in the songs and the weird fashion changeling. My wife who is a traind Operatic Soprano was actually impressed with her voice. As far as getting what she's doing she is self-promoting like a CHAMP. And all the while you can tell she is having FUN.
