Only like 8 people got it. A bunch more saw the dinosaurs and asked "Are you that creepy guy from Jurassic Park?"

Representative of the unwashed masses: No love for Travis Mayweather?

Every time a dangerous piloting maneuver was called for, Archer (a former pilot himself) took the helm, either because he felt more comfortable in control of his ship, or because Mayweather was unconscious or whatever. Mayweather was by far the most useless character in any of the series, and that's going up against some tough competition in half the cast of Voyager.

I'm not. I have no idea who they were talking about, because I haven't seen JP in about a decade.

I was a very good Wash, if I do say so myself.

I didn't see much of Enterprise being in the Navy at the time it aired. But it's hard to believe anyone was ever more useless than Harry Kim. The first time I ever heard "I can't" from a Star Trek character when asked to do some science-y stuff pulled out of the ass. Motherfarker always says "I can't!" Chief O'brien could Macguyver a coat hanger to replicate a phaser. Harry Kim can't beam Tuvok up from a planet with clear skies.

Tom Paris was a decent pilot, but he was a douchebag with basically zero redeeming qualities. B'Elanna should have ended up with Harry, and if you pay close attention to the first two seasons you can see they were sort of heading for that before they decided to switch gears. Either way though, compared to every other series, Tom, Harry, and Chakotay were pretty thin in character. Chakotay might be the worst character in any Star Trek series. He's easily the worst character in the worst series.

But seriously, Tom Paris sucks.

I really hated how under-used the character was from about seasons 3 through 7. It seemed like they only gave him lines in episodes to explain why they couldn't use the transporters. Of all the crappy characters on Voyager, he had by far the most wasted potential. But then, that whole series was basically wasted potential.

2013-11-29 12:11:52 AM
Oh, and if you want a redeeming Harry Kim moment, watch Timeless. He was badass in that episode, easily his best.

Quite honestly, I had no idea who Mayweather even was after I read that. I had to look it up and my reaction was "Oh! Laredo!" or the helmsmen character from Galaxy Quest.

I'd like to watch some reruns of that. I was working during its timeslot when it was on, and never really got to watch it until the third season - which sucked.

BTW, as a UFO owner, Batman is probably the best space pilot though he only brought the thing out for one issue.

He was very useful. He was the go to guy when something horrible had to happen to a member of the crew. Chakotay was useless. Or at least terminally boring.

You really think so? I thought the third season was excellent. The season-long arc was very well-done. The recurring characters especially. Randy Oglesby was by far my favorite recurring guest-star in Enterprise aside from Jeffrey Combs, who has never, ever done anything less than an extraordinary job in Star Trek. I've loved every one of the guy's characters.
