How will I get my Colt 45 and grape Dutch Masters with enough time to get near the front of the line for the Best Buy Black Friday sale now?

If it is anything like the Heath Care website, then half of the contractors are companies that didn't exist a few years ago, and are ran by lawyer/lobbyist who happen to pass around wheelbarrows full of cash to both sides of the aisle. This is the new level of beltway lobbying, starting new companies, to get government contracts, then failing to deliver, then going out of business before you can be made to pay, with multi-million dollar golden parachutes for everyone.

(Also, you can't get alcohol with food stamps.)

Oh please...the private sector is the epitome of efficiency and skill.  This is why it is critical to have as many government functions privatized.

Yeah... I think it's kind of a really bad idea for the government to be doing all this kind of crap online. Never mind the fact they seem to really suck at it it's just not all that cool having people plugging sensitive data into their consistently insecure systems. Just set up kiosks or some sh*t that aren't linked to the web. Provide the info and forms online and perhaps ways to transmit stuff if absolutely necessary (like for shut ins or hopelessly disabled people) but ENCOURAGING massive amounts of citizens to use their likely malware/spyware infected computers to send their most personal info is just foolish. It also makes fraud so ridiculously easy which in the long run will end up costing way more in losses and money to investigate/prosecute/etc than is saved by doing this sh*t on the web.

And look at this fiasco with Obamster care. Something that NEEDED to happen getting completely undermined because they made it a primarily web based system. Fookin' retarded and it gave its detractors free fuel to attack it.

And food stamps? Online? IDK... I've been poor... like really poor. I didn't have intertubes so this would have been useless. This doesn't really do anything for the people who need it most.

tl;dr... Yo, gov derps. You suck at internetting. STAHP!

Exactly. For every drunken druggie abuser draconian welfare policies stick it to there are a couple dozen people (or more) who truly need the help getting screwed as well.

Hey bootstrappers. It's a lot harder to spend time looking for work or actually working when you are being forced to jump through a million hoops just to get a loaf of freaking bread.

Fiscal conservatism means making less tax dollars work harder for the best outcome. The current set of tea f*ckers and even the old guard sh*theads know nothing about fiscal responsibility. All they know is spite and hate.

And therefore the right thinking people are forced to vote for the lamewad lefties. Good jerb... cockheads.

Because all those options are already tapped out over the 3 months of not having the necessary food stamps?

When my family went hungry, others helping only lasted sporadically. It was enough to teach me to barely eat , so my kid brothers could have more.

Ah, memories of thanksgivings not that long ago...

40% of the voters in this state have completely lost their damn minds, if they had any to begin with.  There's a huge swath of rural and outer suburban voters who have bought the right-wing derp lock, stock, and barrel.

And we're left to deal with the government  they deserve.

^this^...Twelve years ago my mother found out I was going through a big struggle, (i didnt let my family in on my troubles), and without hesitation, she told me to pack up my daughter and my cat and come stay with her until I could get things back on track. Not wanting to burden her due to MY own mistakes I refused and assured her I'd find a way to work it out. She called my dad alerting him to my problems...he then called me and told me to get my butt to mom's. Dad said, "my and your mom are going to give you a HAND UP, not a HAND OUT". It took me two years to get back on track...which I paid back in more ways than just the financial help. I am so grateful for my terrific parents, and will do the same for my daughter if she ever falls. Though I doubt she will...she learned a lesson during that time and at 22 is much wiser than I was at 41 :)

2013-11-28 02:24:54 PM
It's nice that people still think that "community" is the answer to poverty. See... here's the thing. Sometimes the "community" doesn't have the resources. Sometimes the "community" refuses to help certain "undesirables". Sometimes the "community" expects all sorts of unrealistic crap from the person they are "helping". And many times, in this cold and angry modern world, the "community" is completely non-existent.

THAT... is why there are government funded social programs that are, in theory, applied evenly to all who need it without prejudice or unrealistic expectations. If the "community" could be trusted to do these things on its own then teh ebil wallet assaulting gubmint would have to step in so Johnny Gayblackguyatheistorphan isn't forced to steal your TV just to feed his kids.

2013-11-28 02:28:17 PM
Wait, why is it the states fault she doesn't have enough money for Thanksgiving? Maybe it's her fault for being a single mother of two without a job? Maybe a little.

When I was in my early twenties, I was dirt poor. I remember bringing home pay checks for $150 some weeks, to support our family of three. Our rent was $400 a month, without utilities. My wife and I both worked second jobs, and it was rough for a long time.

Both of us had just a high school diploma, so we really didn't have options. I worked at a bakery, starting at 4 am each day. My wife had a 2 hour commute to work each day, but she was the real bread- winner, even though the gas/maintenance cost us a fortune.

My wife applied for WIC after my daughter was born, and was turned down for her income. It was canned beans and hotdogs for a longtime. The only charity we received was from the local church.

The thing is, we tried. I got up at 3 am to get to the bakery, and I generally didn't see my wife til at least 7 pm, which was my bedtime. We did this for years, and years. We tried.

And we didn't have another child til we could afford it.

For us, the only charity that was freely available was the church.

But I didn't blame anyone for my situation except myself. I didn't further my studies. I didn't wait to have my first child when we could afford it. I didn't have a trade or skill to be able to provide a living, etc. it wasn't up to the state to feed my daughter, ultimately it was my job to do that.

My point is even if we'd received WIC, it was still my job to feed my daughter. And if I didn't like it, tough. Those are the choices I made, so I sucked it up.

This woman has the same choices I had. She needs to suck it up, find a job, and be responsible. I feel the only legitimate charity is local, not from some state or federal departments.

Stop blaming the state for not providing you what you should be providing yourself and our family.
