Craigslist is the platonic ideal of caveat emptor.

Are the towels new or used?

Lady is stupid. But it should be easy to track it if the SN is still on the box and/or the box wasn't pulled out of the trash. When I picked mine up, GameStop scanned the SN. Most of the retailers selling them do that. All the police should have to do, other than pimp slapping the stupid woman, is to call up the locsl retailers and check the SN.

This happens with every new gadget of the year, don't people read or watch the news?

A bobcat would have been pretty cool.  Perfect for re-gifting.

That's weird.  I just received a package from a Craigslister with a PS4, instead of the towels I had put the money down on...

\there was also a Russian mail-order bride to come with the towels....
\\hope you're okay, Марта!   They should have punched enough airholes in the crate for you, so you'll be fine.

Craigslist.

That's the joke.

2013-11-27 08:23:45 PM
I seriously wonder how much she paid for it... If it's $350, why not just spend the extra $50 and get one from a reputable vendor? If it's like $200, then obviously it's a scam. Ah well, expensive lesson for being a Cheapberg.

2013-11-27 08:23:59 PM
I have very little sympathy for these things. You check before you pay, and better yet get it at a real store

Imagine if there were no Craigslist, nothing would get done.
I guarantee every one of you here has used it, and often, for all manner of transactions. CL is like Amazon for the cash-based society amongst us, we're all implicated, we all bought a 'too good to be true' item or two, we've all spent 48hrs with a strange sexual freak that had that ad that mentioned that thing, we've all took a look at the missed connections and found one that refers to us, but disparagingly.
I propose a full and permanent ban on Craigslist existing, it's the only way to get nothing done.

I wouldn't even pay for a PS4 at a store unless I opened the box first. When I replaced my PS3 at frys I stood at the checkout and opened the box to make sure everything was in the box before I handed them my debit card. Why are people so farking stupid?

These thieves are pretty clever. I doubt they would use a box they bought legitimately. My guess is that they found the box in the trash. It is possible.

Yeah that broad is just plain stupid. Anyone should know that you don't buy from a person without looking in the box first, and if it's an electronic item you also plug it in and make sure it works.

They used to have a little cut out in the box that let them scan the serial number off of the console instead of using the box sticker. My Xbox One didn't have one though. When did they quit doing that?

Kind of off topic but,
I put 2 packages (Shakuhachi flutes) on my front porch for a usps scheduled pickup in the morning and some f*cker stole them before the mail man showed up. They were insured but I don't know if they're covered for that.  If not, I'm out a few hundred bucks  :-(

/checking craigslist & local music shops to see if they show up

Nah, guys. You're forgetting that it's also very easy for them to have found a box, in the trash for instance, and then used that. I bet that's what happened.

I could understand doing that for a used system, but for a new one you can hold them accountable by saving your damn receipt and going home to open it.

Though I am no criminal mastermind, it is feasible the culprits took digital photos of the box label while in the store, uploaded to their PC, printed label on a sticker type surface and placed on the victim's box. But then again, they may have found the box in the trash.

You get this a lot with returns. They say to check previously opened purchases, because people will buy an item and then return a nearly empty box. Then, the joke's on whomever gets it on the second go-around.

I've got no problems with checking out what's in the box, but not while in line (if there are people behind you). Stand off to the side or something.
