Trainspotr: Saw a commercial yesterday for Big Lots, which will be open at 7am on Friday. Then I tried to think of something sadder than the kind of person who would go to Big Lots at 7am on the day after Thanksgiving.

That's a discount junk store right?

As a former Best Buy worker who had to clean up after these animals (yes, even the hell-preview that was the women's restroom), FARK you idiots.  Enjoy the chinese made garbage retailers wouldn't risk selling the rest of the year.  You waste your precious little time off to sit in line, hold tremendous loads of poo(think about whatwas consumed the day before and that is was is waiting in the colon's of these folks), and fight crowds/traffic for plastic break-in-a-month off brands for your greedy selves.

Murrie Christamus arsehats!!!

LIQUOR STORES

Buy your liquor today, it's not that difficult.

Hogwash! Alcohol needs to be available on ALL holidays that involve hanging out with the family. Also holidays that involve fireworks, veterans, trees, diaper-clad baby archers, rabbits that lay eggs, and Kwanzaa.

If you don't have enough alcohol in your house to dull the pain of family, you're doing it wrong.

I will be going out to the liquor emporium on Black Friday. Not because of depleted stocks or anything, that's just my excuse-in-advance to take a breather from the chaotic fun of the holidays.

ralanprod: Stopped by Best Buy to get an overpriced phone charger last night, and there were already people lined up outside to be first in the door for whatever sale is planned.

My 8 year old son, unfamiliar with the whole black Friday/Thursday phenomenon, said to the first guy, "You know the store is OPEN right?  You can just GO IN. You don't need to wait in line."

He then told the guy at the security desk inside the door that there were a bunch of stupid people outside waiting to get in a store that is ALREADY OPEN !!!

I considered explaining the whole thing to him, but the entertainment was way too good to mess up.

/CSB, seriously.

Yeah, because if there's one thing America will not tolerate, it's bloodshed of the innocent.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to work on my sign for the "Rally for Gun Rights" that's being held in Newtown Ct on the anniversary of the day that those 26 selfish children tried to block my freedoms.

It's only overpriced if you're stupid enough not to use their price matching option.

Jesus Christ, people, they even honor Amazon prices.

I work PT at a drug store and we're open on all holidays except for Christmas. However, our hours are pretty short so its not like we're there the whole day. Just a few hours so people who had to go to the hospital overnight can come in and and get their prescriptions filled. And we sell a ton of booze (state liquor agency as well).

I_C_Weener: You know who is open all the time?  Amazon.

Amazon punishes Canadians by jacking up all prices by 50% because of whatever, and never offering them the same deals on games, unlike GOG, Steam, and the rest.

Millennium: The Black Friday threads should totally link to the Black Friday Death Count site. Best place to get updates, probably.

Whod'a thunk that Toys-R-Us is actually the site of more deaths than Wal-Mart?

Really? You must not have been around for the Cabbage Patch Wars of '87 and '88, or the Tickle-Me-Elmo Battles of the late '90s/early '00s.

I got this scar.....

I gave up on Black Friday years ago with one exception. It used to be I got up at 5:am, hit three stores and was back in bed in bed by 6:30. The year I saw 200 people in line for TRU I quit. The exception was a sporting goods store where I got in line at 4:am when I got a $1500 commercial dehydrator for $300. Back at home in bed by 7:am.

As it is the family's Xmas gift arrives today UPS and the kid and I will be spending the day setting it up. My Xmas gift arrives Friday and my wife's on Monday. My kid has to pick out his new desk chair online and I am done.

I will be going out on Monday when turkey's are on sale and fill the freezer with ten or so when they are severely marked down to get rid of the excess. That is my extent of going out in public on the holidays. Depending on what the homeless shelters I volunteer at have for freezer space, I'll fill their freezers up as well.

Going to Walmart about 2 and a half hours before the opening. $40 CoD game and $35 NBA 2kLive.

I got a Kindle and a smartphone, i can keep busy just fine. The walmart in Woodbury MN is pretty civil. Not alot of swearing, NO running people over. Hell, they try to hook you up with the big ticket items before it even starts with wristbands and stuff.

I would have just sat and watched football anyway. No big whoop.

According to Wikipedia, they "sell a wide variety of merchandise, including packaged food and beverages, toys, furniture, clothing, housewares, and small electronics, much of which is closed out or overstocked merchandise. Many of the items in these stores sell out quickly: in the store one day, but gone the next, with no replenishments coming.

There was one in the town i went to college in 20 years ago. We used to get cases of not-terrible wine for like 30 bucks. It's been a while since I've seen one, and I kind of assumed they went the way of Zayre and Venture from back in the day.

I don't have a specific death count in mind, if that's what you're asking, but it would have to be big enough to change the narrative from "What was wrong with those people?" to "What is wrong with society?"

People get psychotic during the holidays. People setting up tents in front of stores as early as Monday to save a few dollars that they could have easily made up by actually working those days. People sitting in airports for hours to visit relatives that they don't even like because "tradition" tells them that they should (assuming the flight isn't canceled). Rampant materialism during Christmas which is the polar oppose of what Christ supposedly tried to teach. People are farking nuts.

I don't really get all the hate on Black Friday. Last few years I've gone it's been busy, but always organized and never violent. Yeah, it sucks that stores are opening on Thanksgiving, but lot of people in non essential job functions work on Holidays, suck it up. I also love the "standing in line all night to save $5 on a computer comments". For one thing, if you're standing in line any longer than an hour, you're an idiot, but the Black Friday sales are almost never "save $5 on a computer", it's usually more like "Save $200 on a slightly underpowered, but still functional computer", which is great for stingy people like myself.

The best thing that we as a society can do is to NOT SHOP anywhere on Thursday, day evening or night.

Shop on Friday morning, not Thursday.
