So edgy. I wonder if he DOESN'T watch T.V. And constantly volunteers that information?

You're preaching to the choir, guys.

2013-11-27 09:14:51 AM
What's ironic about that? Christmas lights weren't in the Bible. And Jesus wasn't born in December. The Shepherds would not have been in their fields in December. The Palestinian winters are too cold.

/thank you, Boondocks

If they wanted to deliver the same message, he should have had The Fonz leaning back with his thumbs up.

Is the A for apathy? Because I just don't care.

Two things that always get a rise out of FARKers: The irony tag and anything dealing with atheism. Well done, subby, you've unleashed the unholy trinity duality upon us!

It's like 1,000 spoons when all you need is Richard Dawkins.

So we still going with the whole "atheists just want to live and be left alone, not preached to" nonsense?

Submitter, that's offensive.

...they're "holiday" lights.

All it needs now is a New York/Chicago pizza debate.

I like having days off of work regardless of whether or not I believe in the commercialization of a fictional birthday for a guy a few thousand years ago whose teachings are ignored and perverted by those who claim to follow them.

They would be if they were hiding out there to get up to no good. Like, say, taking a bunch of hallucinogens.

The only debate is what to beat you with if you don't think Chicago style is the best.

taurusowner: So we still going with the whole "atheists just want to live and be left alone, not preached to" nonsense?

Exactly! this obviously proves that's not true, just like the Westboro Baptist Church proves that all religious folks are hatemongering bigots. Right?

2013-11-27 09:27:16 AM
If someone were to drill a hole in the giant A, would it be a giant A hole?

taurusowner: So we still going with the whole "atheists just want to live and be left alone, not preached to" nonsense?

If we see a story about a WBC protest, do we still go with the whole "Christians just want peace on Earth and goodwill to men" nonsense?

If we see a story about a drunk guy shooting a family member by accident, do we still go with the whole "gun owners are responsible citizens who just want to protect their households" nonsense?

So, they're actually pagan, then?

I bet there are a lot of conversations every year about making sure not to invite you to parties.

Yes but are they circumcised and if so, was it performed by pinching the foreskin in an extended assault clip for an ar-15?

You know what? I'm actually kinda outraged.

Not only did they pick an ugly font to use, they italicized it for no good reason...

Some atheists are choosing to stand up for the American Constitution. The whole "government not endorsing one religion" with the explicitly christian-only display on public property.

Do you hate them for exercising their right to make their own display or just for existing?

sepuku2: Why do Atheist even care about Christmas?

Some are just attention seeking whores, others are just misguided.

As an Atheist I find these displays and slaps at religion misguided. If they truly want to achieve the separation of church and state they would join me and in demanding that Christmas, December 25th, be removed from the Federal holiday calendar as it clearly violates the separation of church and state.

2013-11-27 09:32:31 AM
Bad subby, getting me to click a link to the blaze while on the mobile site which doesn't have the tattletale icons and only text. Actually, that's my fault for not noticing, but I'm not the one who linked to the blaze, so it evens out.

That said, Jon Stewart you're not helping.Jpg.

This makes that Christmas song they made even funnier. I didn't know he was an atheist!

The trinity would include the words "smoking hot" in the headline.

I can imagine the blank stare on a lot of faces if these protesters were told they win if they give up all days off work for religious-based holidays.

If people have those conversations behind my back, then chances are I wouldn't want to go to a party with them anyway. So it works out for both of us.

That was my first thought, too. Celebrating the "Winter Solstice", as they put it, is a pagan rite pre-dating pretty much any modern-day religion.

I would love it if another group set up their own Christmas lights alongside the giant A

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Most people dont but atheists seem to act like people assault them all the time when they announce they dont follow religion. They dont seem to grasp none of give a shiat who they or who they dont follow.

2013-11-27 09:38:00 AM
Whether or not you believe in the premise, Christmas tries to represent a celebration and a positive message and in this case a nativity scene reaches people who are both citizens and Christians.
Instead of leaving that alone, this group is using that symbol to attack religion in government. Hey, they may have a valid point, but guess what? To the surprise of no one, atheists took an opportunity to convey a message and instead ended up looking like dicks. Now's not the time, friends. There will be an atheist MLK/Gandhi one of these days, but not here, and not now. Atheism will have a leader who polarizes and unites many by validating their message through intelligence, science, and logic by being intelligent, scientific, and logical...rather than being stupid and dickish.

You have to admire the extra stupidity in the choice of venue and timing, too. Taking on freedom from religion by attacking a symbol of the largest period of retail and internet profit in the US every single farking year. Double down, dudes.

You're a little too drunk for this early in the morning to be suggesting a federal holiday be removed. I'm pretty sure removing a federal holiday and the break that comes with it for most would irritate more than just the religious demographic.

We are atheist family who celebrate a very typical Xmas. We decorate outside with a wooden Santa and lights and lighted deer and a couple of lighted trees. Indoors we have little snowmen figures everywhere and Christian garland and wreaths. We haven't gotten our Christian tree, maybe this weekend. We just think it's fun to decorate and celebrate.

You like the benefits just not the reason for the benefits. You're just like many "Jewish" people I know who don't go anywhere near a synagogue but take every Jewish Holiday in existence because they grew up in a Jewish family.

Therefore, you're not an atheist, you're "Jewish"..

Because Christmas is fun. Lots of people like Christmas for the holdiay and don[t give two shiats about the religious aspect.

I follow Christian religion tennants more closely than many Christians I know. I'd say I have more right to celebrate Christian holidays than they do. And I'm not a Christian.

So basically one day the members of a belief system will become united under a single leader? That will work out well.
