Deadite: Look out now LV, Kanye going Hulk mode on Sway and you're next!

WTF am I listening to?

I was already boycotting Louis Vuitton because the prices are too high. I'm boycotting Kanye West because he's a no talent ass clown.

I have a Columbia wallet.  It's probably 20 years old, it's spent all of that time in my back pocket, and there's not a thing wrong with it.  I wouldn't be surprised if I got another 20 years out of it.  I think I paid $15 for it.

Wait, so according to Wikipedia, Kanye already did a shoe line with LV in 2009.

So either it flopped, in which case they don't want to do business with him any more, or it succeeded, in which case he should be talking to his brand manager, not the president.

Stupid Kanye...

"They think I don't realise my power"  Wow.  A reverse "Do you know who the fark I am?"

Only Kanye can ask the important question, "Do I know who the fark I am?"

I would like an official LV spokesperson response to that photograph.

I'm sure it would be something like this but in French, directed at the young rapscallion.

I really have no desire to buy LV, but I really would love Kanye to choke on some that vile diatribe he spews. I'd love it the way a fat kid loves cake.

FLMountainMan: Bslim: You HAVE to use a designer bag for work? What sort of work is this?

Quite a few professions have certain unwritten (but verbally and culturally enforced) norms like this.  Consultants at one of the big guys, for example, are expected to have a very nice car, certain brands of suits etc...  Attorneys at certain law firms are the same way.  I also imagine that a lot of Wall Street firms have similar codes.

I can attest to this.  I am beginning to go through this now.  I drive an old Ford Escort, live in a rancher that is constantly under renovation, and wear yoga pants all the time. I cannot stress enough that I farking hate shopping.  I have two teenagers, and two large dogs, so I really dont give a shiat who or what I wear.  Then my husband was promoted to VP, first he gets a company car, then he went shopping because he had to dress the part.  He spent more money on clothes in one day than I had all year.  Then he suggested I get an SUV and maybe some new outfits. The SUV is fine, I needed more room for the kids and the dogs.   I'm stalling on the clothing part.  Finally, I lost it and drew the line when he wanted to move to a different neighbourhood and get a bigger house like all "the others".  fark that noise, more to clean and I like my neighbours.  If you judge and base your impression on me by what I have then I don't want to associate with you.

'A lot of what the Kardshians do, I don't think they get enough credit for what they do.

Totally. I've always thought that.

They have quality jackets that have a lifetime warranty.  A zipper broke on mine, they didn't have that type of jacket anymore so they sent me a new one that was even better.  They were fast and no questions asked.

For the not-quite-high-end, I'd also recommend Modalu. My wife had gotten many compliments. Nice leather, too.

Off topic but I had the the same thing with Sennheiser headphones, had them for 5 years right channel started to crackle and fade.
I sent them in for repair, they sent me a brand new pair of a model that was a step up from the pair I sent it. I will be a Sennheiser customer for a very long time.

Actually that is totally on topic.  If you spend that much money on something it should last a long time.  Because of that, I have only bought Columbia ski jackets/pants/boots etc. for my boys.  The way boys grow, they've made a mint off me.  They last forever and I can hand them down to my cousin, who's struggling to raise her two boys.

I have a black leather "Independent" wallet that I bought 12 years ago for $20 at I don't even remember where, probably either Spencers or Hot Topic. It was originally rough and suede-like and was actually extremely inconvenient to place in or remove from my pocket. It has in the ensuing years been polished down to a smooth, glossy sheen, and shows no real signs of wear other than a single slightly loose thread. I don't even know if Independent is still a brand, but if for that kind of money I can buy something that for all appearances so far will last me a lifetime, I can't think of a single reason why I would ever want to spend more.

Holy cow.  Those actually exist?!  Can you float across the Pacific with them, with Meg Ryan as your raft-mate?

Those are hilarious.

The truly rich don't need luggage.  They have all the clothes they want at each of their 8 homes.

Semantic Warrior: In the spirit of saying "Fark you" to Kanye, I love how most of this thread is guys offering tips to other guys about how to afford to say "Fark you" to Kanye and go buy a LV bag.

/The Internets, you're doing it right.

Yeah I'm just as confused, myself...now I'm wondering if my wife wants a LV bag or wallet.  I expected more Kanye hate and now I'm getting good tips on how to buy luxury brand items.  My new PC really needs to show up so I have something better to do this weekend.

And by the way, you'd think a guy with that much "power" would be able to get a woman that doesn't resemble an anthropomorphic pack mule in Vera Wang's old clothes.

Hmm, on the one hand you have a guy who I begrudgingly admit surprises me on occasion with a truly interesting piece of music but who has no more influence on me than the guy at the bong shop.....

Vs

Some designer hand bags that I would quite literally give away if I received it as a gift... They might have one I'd like if it had no label.

I think I'll just abstain on this one.

When I was a girl my mom forbade me ever owning, liking, or admiring anything LV because it was "made for new money jews who just want to show off their money".
Bonus: my mother was a new money jew who just wanted to show off her money.

My mother (a new money German protestant married to a Catholic) suffers from reverse snobbery.  She wants to appear to have less money than she actually does, so that other people won't think that she got the money in an underhanded way or is showing off.

Here ya go. Louis Vuitton Monogram Denim Speedy Round. It's $5000 on Amazon.com, looks as fake and/or hot, but with Prime shipping is free.

This exemplifies the real problem I have with Louis Vuitton stuff- it is butt freaking ugly. To me it has no value other than to show people you could afford to buy it just because of its sheer ugliness. I've never seen any purse/luggage etc of theirs that was anything short of ugly to me.
