Even if Denver drops the rest of their games, they'd still be the #6 seed in the AFC. Which means...

I've done some not-great things this year, but nothing bad enough to merit a Browns-Vikings Super Bowl.

/although I would love to see people try to run to bestow the "elite" title on Weeden and/or Ponder the way they rushed to for Flacco and Kaepernick

Why are Vikings ahead of Lions in make believe playoff scenarios? At least the Vikings have played in a superbowl and have more than one playoff win in 56 years.

Because the Vikings are in last place. It's not hard to get a first-place team into the playoffs.

The trick-shot QB will lead the Browns to a Super Bowl victory, and his elite status will be cemented by his 3.5 million youtube hits and the fact that he can hit a truck with a football.

That_Dude: So someone on Reddit found a scenario where there is an 11-way tie for the sixth seed in the AFC.  Who wins the tiebreaker?  The Jags.

Damn. how about an 9 way tie for the top spot in each conference (18 way tie for the top spot in the NFL).

I also got 23 teams (max possible) to go 8-8

Clearly, these are the two scenarios we should hope play out the rest of the season.

Unless I suck at this, at least one of these teams is guaranteed to make the playoffs. SEA, CAR, and NO. I can get any to leave the playoffs, but not all 3 together.

TB and ATL can't win the division, so either CAR or NO will have to appear in the playoffs.

TB and Atlanta are eliminated from winning the NFC South.  You have to have NO or Carolina in it.  Seattle is easy to knock out, though, since SF and Arizona still have good records.

College football fans are all clamoring for a playoff like a playoff is something great...
This year the NFL could still have a Super Bowl featuring the Cleveland Browns (currently 4-7) vs. Washington Redskins (3-8) and the winner would be the league champion.
No matter how you slice it that is stupid.
Meanwhile, college football fans can be 100% sure that Notre Dame (8-3) will be nowhere near a BCS bowl.

Horse feathers.

Under the BCS, most teams can go undefeated (and many have) and still have no shot at making the championship game.

How do those games matter?

If you give up on the Jaguars (most people did years ago) and instead work on getting the 2-9 Texans into the playoffs, that gives you a lot more leeway in the AFC.  My pièce de résistance:

AFC Seeds: Kansas City, Cleveland, Buffalo, Houston, San Diego, and Oakland (in order).  That leaves us with Seattle, New Orleans, Washington, Minnesota, Arizona, and Tampa Bay in the NFC (also in order).

Unfortunately, I can't find a way to get Minnesota, Tampa Bay, and Washington into the NFC playoffs without resorting to multiple ties.  It's possible without the Redskins, but what's the point then?

To me this highlights what a joke college football is compared to the pros.  They've played 11 weeks and there is only one team mathematically eliminated from being world champion.  In college, half the teams don't have a shot at NC on week one.  There is almost zero parity in college football, they all play pansies and then use ranking systems to decide who would beat who in a theoretical head-to-head.  The NCAA needs to drop 30-40 teams for college to be relevant.  And no scheduling outside of your conference, ever.  Slim it down to 80 teams that all only play each other.
