Is there an ASCII vagina?

If only there were some way to determine if a post was made of, you know, WORDS.

2013-11-26 08:34:07 PM
If it was an effort to 'fix' the comments, it was a very, very stupid effort, doomed from the start.

If it was, as I suspect, an effort to get more people on Google+, the same applies.

A shame.  I like the Google+ interface and look far better than Facebook's.

Everyone agreed that the comments were terrible. Yet they were incensed by change, and so set out to make them more terrible.

Google isn't the problem here, people are.

But seriously, this is worth watching.  It's a pretty good explanation of the problem and how it's affecting youtube video people.

They only had those character limits and hyperlink restrictions in place to hamper spammers and destructive commenters in the absence of good systems for mass-management of users.

Now they're developing better systems for regulating comments and users, they've lifted those controls which were ineffective anyway.

The comments seem to be already a bit better from the brief glances I've taken at some videos. They obviously have shadowbanning in place.

I really have to wonder about what psychological disorders that the worst trolls suffer from. I'm not talking about your garden variety flame warrior, but people who sit on sites and try to piss people off for like 8 hours straight. What are they suffering from? Narcissistic personality disorder or something?

If you're not going to moderate comments, you shouldn't have comments.

2013-11-26 09:06:58 PM
I never gave a rats ass about the trollsl, but sometimes there were thoughtful commenters providing information.  Then google went and tried to force G+ on me just read the comments (apparently).  While son, I am disappoint... I give even less of a rats ass now.  Screw you for that bullshiat.  That's a stupid and counterproductive way to 'entice' users into using your service.  Thanks, but no thanks.  I didn't watch it before, I want it even less now with that dick move.

If you can't exercise complete control over discussion, then don't allow any discussion at all?  Wow.  Zero tolerance strikes again!

"ASCII Dick Art" would be a great name for a rock band.

Ah my bad, I didn't know about the "popular discussions" thing. That's dumb.
It should let you sort by votes and by "popular" (i.e. number of replies)

They changed the way your free account works. From their free service. I think you kind of have to deal with it, and maybe stop thinking of yourself as a beautiful offering to the internet community.

I think we all know it was really about trying to improve the stats for Google+ which is why google posted a huge spike in the amount of google+ accounts that were created. They don't care about youtube comments, it was just a way to force more people to use google+ even if it's just for youtube comments

There is no "problem". This is a free service, and Google can choose to make any policies they want. Don't like it? go elsewhere. "Problem" solved. All these people are just biatching because now when they act like total pricks, they can't be anonymous anymore. Big farking deal.

The irritation is twofold; first it's a site that's been installed for a long time, and this is a change effecting many people. Second it's a transparent and obnoxious ploy to boost a fairly stupid social networking issue that Google is going to continue pushing further into their free products.

And third honestly it's annoying that I need to deal with this at all to watch the 'omgcutelink' my friend sent me.

I'll be glad when they go back to the original system, where I could view the comments in my YouTube inbox.

I'm also a bit pissed they keep trying to tie my Google+ with YouTube by name. I use a pseudonym for a reason... it keeps the crazies mostly at bay - and there are crazies out there.

Rule 34 says so. I know there is a small version consisting of a left parenthesis, left curly bracket, right curtly bracket and finally right parenthesis

It needs an i in the middle of the brackets.  Type it out; you'll see.

So that's at least a valid complaint, but once again it's free, so they can do what they want with it.

Besides, create a social media account based around the band, and it seems like a win-win, just like having a FB account for the band, but it would be directly linked to the video page.

Like I said, at least the added PITA for you is more valid than the people who are complaining because they want to continue to be the scum of the earth anonymously. I haven't worried so much about it myself, notice my user name is closer to a real name even here. I obviously don't want some jackass taking my comments out of context some day, but I also don't hide behind the Internet like most of the Google complainers do...

NickelP: The insane comments were the best part of YouTube

This. The problem, however, was that this was not maximizing investment because ASCII penises are not useful information to advertisers. The problem for Google is that if they continue down this road they risk losing some portion of the very viewers advertisers want. In the end, many youtube advertisers want the younger demographic that Youtube provides but not the rest of the teenager antics that go along with it. But they can't have it both ways. The Mormon teenager is not a viable economical demographic for them to pursue. The sooner Google grasps that the better off they will be.

That's a fairy tale. Google sells ads, that is how they make revenue. If there are no eyeballs then they do not make any money. And they fact is that the "anonymous sewer" is attractive to many more people than those who find it unattractive.

A: it's still their to do eat they want with, whether they lose ad revenue or not.

B: Advertisers font want to tie their name to a "moral sewer".

C: It's all tied into the ad revenue. If advertisers refuse to sponsor until the scum leave, then there is no reason not to comply.

D: These pieces of shirt have absolutely zero to add to the discussion and they won't be missed.
