If you hit someone hard enough to cause a concussion I'd say that goes beyond a mere slap.

IANAL, but shouldn't it be battery? I thought Assault was the threat.

This new slapping game makes me afraid to walk the streets of D.C. at night.

According to common law you are right, but in some places the definition of assault has been expanded to include "intentional physical contact with another person without their consent".

And then there is aggravated assault, which is assault or battery with a weapon, or rape, or consensual sex with a minor or... you get the idea.

My buddies and I came across this group of college aged kids at a lame sports bar about 10 years ago. That group was one enormously boobed chick and a whole bunch of frat boy types. She was offering groping of her boobs for a little while in exchange for slapping the dude as hard as she could. Bizarre spectacle. I did not partake.

But the question remains.
If a man has sex with a prostitute and does not pay, is it rape, or shoplifting?

CSB:

Back in the '80's, I frequented a popular bar with college kids like myself. One crazy as total fark ex-offensive lineman for an SEC football team would offer $10 to headbutt the the poor busboys. The most grotesque sound imaginable...like two bowling balls colliding violently. Never seemed to phase the idiot football player, but poor busboys were left in a severe daze.

Note: Got into a fight with him thinking he wouldn't beat a much smaller guy. I was wrong and he pummeled me into the sidewalk.

Note note: Two other football players came around and pummeled him.

So, a bunch of guys grabbing on a girl while she puts up a fight?

Yeah. That's what frat boys call, "date night."

The Russians back in the Soviet era had a game like this, you just got drunk first and took turns slapping.

In my high school drama class we spent a few days learning techniques of stage combat.  We were warned under no circumstances to practice this stuff elsewhere in school for laughs because of several previous incidents where kids got in trouble for "fighting" and things went downhill.  Never mind that there were Animal House style foodfights.

He was knocked unconcious and in the hospital for several days with a concussion...  and they didn't charge the first person who took up the bet and slapped him without knocking him out.  This shouldn't be a surprise.  You cannot generally pay people to be victims and use that as a legal excuse.  This is probably the least dramatic example of that, but there have been plenty.

Stick with the regular $10 argument or the five minute session of abuse. These people are professionals.

This story illustrates why this service is not an everyday service you can get at the Mall. A lot of people have had this brilliant quick money idea, only to find that it has downsides as a business plan.

This goes to show why good ideas are cheap, but good execution of bad ideas can be highly profitable.

Mind you, I was just reading a Jack Handey sketch in which he offers "good ideas" for paintings, some of which are impossible to execute, all of which are dumbass and useless.

People often say "A monkey could do that!" but could one? Abstract paintings can be really hard to do. You have to think about every dot or splash of paint. It's a lot harder to do than it looks. A representational painting only requires the ability to reproduce what you see with precision and accuracy. What are the odds of paint randomly splashed on a canvas looking like anything or being pleasingly balanced? Slim.

Abstract art is hard. Photography is a lot easier but deceptive. Representational art has been done to death. You have to give the discriminating public something to discriminate about and people to discriminate against, namely the general public.
