We already know what women wearing designer clothes look like.

They look like runway models, thin-shamers.

Has anyone ever thought for a second that designers might be the most accomplished evil grudgeholding geniuses our planet has ever faced?  We've talked about kids getting bullied and developing great scientific minds...but what about the girl ridiculed in the locker room who becomes a designer and makes clothes that are always *just* a little too small for those same girls who pushed her around?  Maybe you're tough enough to point your finger in her face, but she's smart enough to make you stick that same finger down your own throat.  Game over, fatty.

You can definitely be too thin.  Too rich I'm not so sure about.

None of those clothes require you to have skinny arms or legs, so no, that's not what you would have to look like

Well, this is a stinging rebuke to the thesis that gay male fashion designers want women to look like bony, prepubescent boys.

But, please stop trying to turn the tables and please stop picking on people because they are normal sized instead of overweight or obese.

Unrealistic body image for men is at least being extremely fit beyond what most men have time for. The female "ideal" is so emaciated as to be unable to work out reasonably. It can't be achieved by hard work and a detailed protien heavy diet. It's severe, prolonged caloric defecits or nothing. How many men die from going to the gym too often? I imagine it's far fewer than women who die of anorexia or extreme dietung.

Okay? They're just sketches. How about this - little kids are the really evil ones because they draw all people as stick figures.

Men are vain and competitive, so they get what they deserve by dieting, weight lifting and doing steroids

Women are victims.

They're design sketches... They're basically fancy stick figures used as conceptual aids as they work out theoretical designs for clothes. Attaching some kind of social significance to working sketches like that is kind of idiotic.

Well the idealized male body image is like a level of fit you would need steroids for and the health effects of that are well known.

Also on comic/cartoon characters He-Man has like a larger chest and smaller hips than Mr Olympia era Arnold in his prime, so its like as rediculous as Barbie.

The last thing companies want these days is for people to put some actual thought into what they consume.

They might stop buying bottled water and the latest smartphone when their old one works perfectly fine for godsakes!

generallyso: So quick  all fashion sketches aren't anatomically correct.

Ask yourself why that is, and why they are all incorrect in the same direction.  They aren't drawing cartoons for people to look at.  It's an idealized form.  Why that one, which makes barbie look semi-normal?

If you were in an art class and you were assigned a nude to sketch realistically, and you sketched her with these proportions, the teacher would assume you just suck at sketching.

I work on designed stuff.  If someone sketched a widget way out of proportion like this I'd be very annoyed once I saw the correctly dimensioned drawings.

What's wrong with realistic?

He-Man action figure scaled up to like 6' tall has like a 62" chest and 26" waist

Mr Olympia Era Ahnold had a 57"chest and 34" waist.

Not necessarily.  The idealized male body in the media is definitely not the Mr Universe-level of 'roided muscle, but rather fairly slim with significantly defined muscles.    More Fight Club Brad Pitt than Arnold levels of bodybuilding.

That's not to say that body dysmorphia is ever good or idealized bodies are easy for either sex.  Just that for most men the ideal at least involves the gym to some extent rather than simply extreme starvation.  Women are actively afraid of lifting weights for fear that they'll look worse with muscles.  That's a big problem.

This.  Though I have to say--where did these sketches come from?  Are they from real designers, or did the artist involved here make them up?

I have to imagine that the best designers at least sketchy something that matches what their favorite models look like.

I don't remember the He-Man backstory very well, but didn't he rely on the magic of Greyskull to get his super strength?  At least in that case there would be a somewhat reasonable explanation for an unrealistic body shape.
