Given his past quotes on the subject, Ghandi might have actually liked this guy.

+1 for the headline.

+1 to Frankie the Pope.  I'm warming to him, if not to his church.

Gandhi might have liked you, too, if you'd just spell his name correctly.

Sure I don't agree with this guy on 100% of things... But he is awesome!!!

2013-11-26 04:17:12 PM
+1, troll pope

2013-11-26 04:17:28 PM
I remember reading something from JPII along the same lines.

2013-11-26 04:18:20 PM
One thing is a fact.
Lots of kids have been raped by priests and not one pope has apologized to the masses for it.

2013-11-26 04:18:35 PM
Trickle down is a political term not an economic term.

2013-11-26 04:18:47 PM
+1 headline. Would +1 again...

2013-11-26 04:19:02 PM
Good on him. Now if we could just do something about that whole religion thing.

Raoul Eaton: Gandhi might have liked you, too, if you'd just spell his name correctly.

Screw Gandhi; I only crave the respect of Dhalsim.

I also recommend that Dinesh D'Souza hire Pope Francis' PR people ASAP.

fark Gandhi. Leave the border undefended for a second while dealing with Alexander or Bismarck and the troops roll over. Peaceful coexistence my ass

This world needed a good Pope-in'....

2013-11-26 04:20:14 PM
The problem with the headline is that the church has never said that its spiritual message is grounded in fact, so accusing it something it has never held is rather silly.

"Life finds a way"?  Oh, wrong JP.

Its good to see a pope finally following the actual teachings of Christ rather than the popular 'Prosperity Gospel' that is Christianity's version of 'Atlas Shrugged'.

2013-11-26 04:22:18 PM
Why is it the more the Pope says the right things the more suspicious I get?

Because it is lipstick on a pig?

Reagan was better Pope

Never mind.

/Atheist, but I think this guy isn't bad.

I would have different headline: Pope denounces that warm, wet and yellow feeling we get from the 1%

Didn't Benedict make statements opposing right wing economics? I know the Catholic Church made statements against Paul Ryan's budget that he claimed was inspire by his Roman Catholic religion.

2013-11-26 04:27:04 PM
At this point, there's only one issue keeping me on the fence.  If Pope Frank takes some kind of meaningful action against pedophile priests-both past and present-I'm in.  Back to church, every Sunday. Maybe even throw a few dollars in the plate.

2013-11-26 04:27:51 PM
Watch the US catholic church have their own schism in the next year or so. Time to invest in Orville Redenbacher shares.

I keep trying to find a reason to not like this guy....

And pretty much every catholic theologian and most of their minions in recent memory

They're all about the poor.

I heard the old "it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven" from several priests and nuns growing up.

Of course, helping the poor via birth control isn't on the table. Just give em money.

2013-11-26 04:28:40 PM
A good pope doesn't make Christianity suddenly philosophically accurate, but it does make the catholic church a little better as a humanist institution.

There's a reason he doesn't eat or sleep in the Papal apartments, and prepares his own meals. I'm sure it has little to do with the spirit of poverty.

I wonder if he's talked to the Swiss Guards and ensured a group of loyalists who are willing to protect him at all costs, even against Princes of the Church.

Also, the Catholic Church never really supported the GOP on the fiscal side, but they supported the social conservatives. It was always about stopping birth control, abortion, gay marriage, etc.

2013-11-26 04:30:26 PM
Wow, finally a Christian leader preaching what Jesus actually taught.

2013-11-26 04:30:38 PM
This is not going to go over well with Fox News, and the right wing derps on talk radio (Hannity, Rush, Levin) who believe what our economy and the poor needs is more free enterprise, unregulated capitalism and less Obama "socialist/communist" economic policies.

2013-11-26 04:31:21 PM
So like global warming?

I like the guy, but not his Church. He's only saying what Vatican II said. I don't see any real change happening.

Ohh, ok we'll forgive decades of institutionalized child rape.
