I asked the woman if they gave her an operation to make her so stupid.

My partner works at a wine store where they make her card literally everyone, and people like you make her day shiat. fark you, asshole. I can't wait for your stupid, entitled generation to farking crumble into dust already. Every day she comes home with worse and worse anxiety from all the farking boomers who abuse her over a policy she has to enforce or be fired.

You not having an ID isn't worth the cashier losing their job.

A liquor store near me has a sign that says "We don't care if you look 100.  No ID, no sale."  Apparently, the local PD/LCB likes to take 20 year olds, give them makeup to look as old as possible, then act like they forgot their IDs, and throw tantrums to see if they can get the minimum wage clerks to sell.  It's a policy to protect themselves.  Does it seem stupid?  Yes, it does.  Is it probably necessary?  Yup.

I work retail, and the boomers are easily the most awful people to deal with. There are certainly exceptions, but many of them are unrepentant assholes. Terrible people to deal with.

Did you get an operation to become a jackass?

It's her job. You think she wants to spend more time with a mean old man? No, but she also doesn't want to get fired.

you don't like it, then your generation shouldn't have voted for drinking laws.

More like the WHINE store, am I right?

All day long, the seniors come in and treat her like shiat, I've seen it myself. It's that same farking attitude that asshole I quoted displayed. I beg her to quit but we need the money and her new job doesn't start till January. fark people who go out of their way to be nasty to clerks! Why would you defend that?

When I used to bartend, if I asked you for ID and you didn't have it, I did not serve you alcohol. Does not matter how old you actually are, once I asked, I had to see it. I had 2 ladies come in, they both order margaritas. The looked about 29/30, but I still asked for ID. Better safe than sorry. The one girl got hers out no problem. The other threw an ever lovin' fit because she did not have hers. Her friend then told  her, that's ok I will just buy 2 drinks. I told her that I now could not serve her either and she understood. The other girl went off, like that was going to make me serve her a drink now. I told her that her lack of planning and not bringing her ID was not my problem and that my job was worth more than that. She did not like that at all.

I get carded buying alchold now and then, and I don't mind because I can understand where they might have a "card everyone" policy.  It would be easy for someone to use makeup and such to make themselves look old, and that could lead to a big fine for the store or the clerk. Many of the bars in this are have you swipe your drivers license in order to go into the bar at all, which is odd to me, but I don't really mind.

The last time I was carded that pissed me off, I was around 47 or 48, at a grocery store.  And I wasn't buying alcohol or tobacco, just groceries.  They wanted my ID, and I told them "I'm not buying alcohol or tobacco, so you don't need my ID".  They told me it was because I was buying a cigarette lighter.  To this day, I haven't ever heard of that being illegal to sell to anyone, even after I went looking around.  I think they just like to track exactly what you buy and who you are.  I told them to keep their lighter and I'd take the rest of the stuff.  That was at a Target.  I don't think I've been to a Target since then.  You want to make up stupid "Let me see your ID" rules over a lighter, and have a 16 year old kid enforce it on a middle aged man? And then lie about how there is a law? Sure, go ahead, but I can do business other places.

Store policy is policy. If I was told to card EVERYONE, no matter what their age appeared to be, I would do it. If it takes you more than 15 seconds (I'm being way generous here) to produce an ID, you fail. And if you are having a bad day, there is no need to take it out on the poor hapless wage slave. Escalate that shiat to a manager if you have a problem. There are a few exceptions I would make however.

Now if this girl was indeed doing it as a joke, as her manager (now) claims, then she needs to be reprimanded.

Actually, the article says the cashier was doing it as a joke. So, separately, I hope she gets fired for being an asshole to her customers.

I've had to do that before when bartending. Texas is strict about its liquor laws and TABC doesn't care how old someone is; they still need an ID, no exceptions. Obvious tag should have beaten Silly this time.

Some stores have strict rules about asking a certain number of customers regardless of appearance and that they must see some form of ID once they have asked, or no sale.  Me, I'd just go with a strict policy of "hiring people with half a brain," but I guess that's just me.
